Seeing Stars

The latest in my Project Quilting entries...  Made using this tutorial from Sew Mama Sew.

The instructions are clear and simple.  I did make a few changes, but would recommend it to you as good pattern to try.  It makes a huge block so it wouldn't take many to make a good sized quilt. 



It is approximately 20 x 20 inches.  It is machine pieced using a dark navy Kona and scraps from my stash in various shades of blue.  It is hand quilted outlining the stars with a turquoise number 12 pearl cotton.  The binding is machine stitched and finished by hand.  It needs some extra quilting but I can't decide what or where.  Perhaps some beads or buttons?  Perhaps some ghost quilting of stars in the negative space?  I dunno.  When I figure that out I will add hanging loops or something.  At this point, I'm still not sure which side is up. 

I have been told that the ladies who hand quilt with perfect stitches rip out the first so many stitches they take each day.  I understand that. I  was trying for really wonky stitches.  Once I would get going, I would get into a rhythm and end up with a row of pretty neat stitches.  I'd have to stop and try wonkifying them again.  I think that for a piece where I want the stitches to be neater, I am going to have to have a starter piece to work on first --- ripping stitches seems to much to ask, but I could find my stride on a side piece.

  No.  I think I'd be totally intimidated to show anything at your golden guild!  Must be fun.
