I am an architect so we get TONS of material samples at work (I.e. tile, carpet, laminate chips, vinyl wall covering, solid surface samples, on & on). When it's time to clean house, they give some of these away to aspiring crafters like me. I know something can be done, but what?Huh? I am particularly stumped on solid surface & vinyl tile samples. Any ideas???

P.S. I am looking to make something useful, rather than a piece of art.

I hope you mean that you wish to use them to decorate a useful object, not necessarily build an object from them.

Things that are similar thickness can be combined for a mosaic.  Use on top of a coffee table, tray, kitchen backsplash.  The vinyl tile and laminate samples would work for this.  And, of course, tile.

Wall coverings could cover books, notebooks.

Carpet samples could be crazy quilt assembled and used as area rugs, seat cushions.  Or carpet a door or wall.

I'm not really sure what "solid surface samples" are so can't give you much there.
