Making a test vest for the Ren Faire! I'm pretty happy with how this turned out; the pattern was very easy to follow, although I didn't follow it exactly; instead of sewing it right-sides together and then turning it out, I sewed them wrong-sides and added bias tape around the edges.

It's very much a costume vest, and didn't hold it's shape well, so I added boning to the front & side seams.

It only had five pieces, and although I'm not thrilled with how the shoulder straps like to turn out, that may be because of my general flat-chestedness...ess ess ess.

Aaaaaaaaand the back.

It's leftover upholstery fabric and cotton, with industrial zip ties for the boning. I had to go ask some nice old guy wearing a 'World's Best Grandpa' pin at Home Depot for it. He was nice, if a little bemused by my request.

Nice!  That's great fabric--I hope you plan on wearing it because it's very cute for a test run.

Scholars and artists...differ most importantly in the way their knowledge is come by.  Scholars get theirs with conscientious thoroughness along projected lines of logic; poets...stick to nothing deliberately, but let what will stick to them like burrs where they walk in the fields.

Thanks guys!

I'm glad you like the fabric; it reminds me so much of a couch we had when I was a kid. Grin I probably won't wear this one to the fair as I'm planning a brocade vest, but I may just wear this one for fun.

it looks like the vest I made for the ren fair I went to last summer.  I used Butterick 3906.  I had to add boning to mine too and take in the shoulders, and they still fell down.  How is the fit of that pattern?  I love the fabric you used.

Thanks! The shoulders stay up fine so far, I put laces in them so they can be adjusted. I also took it in at the seams to get the right fit.

5 pieces, technically 10 because there's 2 of each, and the construction is really simple! If you follow the pattern instructions (which I didn't) you don't even have to bind the edges because you turn the seams inside.
