Suggestion: Set your own thumbnail image

When making my 1st thread the other day, I wanted to select one of my uploaded pictures for the thumbnail view, but found out that's not possible. The mod *photojenn* said this:

Hi!  Unfortunately, the first image is always the thumbnail. I don't recall anyone asking to be able to select a thumbnail before so you should definitely create a thread about it in Suggest New Boards and Features -


The images on the left are called thumbnails.

So I'm taking her advice and posting here.

Not sure if it really matters, but it's a nice feature to have.

I just put whatever image I want to be the thumbnail as my first image

there are times when i don't want my first image to be the thumbnail- so I would like that option occasionally

There is actually a nice little sneaky way of doing a thumbnail.
Full credit for this method goes to stitchFIGHT...unlesss you're not supposed to do it, in that case I take full blame!!

I had noticed a while back some of stitchFIGHT's posts had a thumbnail that differed from the first image, so I asked her about it. Surprisingly no-one else seems to have noticed a few people who have done this little trick. Since there's a topic about it now, and in the spirit of making craftster a more glamorous place...here goes! 

Copy and paste your thumbnail image location at the very beginning of your post (just like you normally would when you add in an image). Inside the (img) tag, add "width=1 height=1"
So it should look like
(img width=1 height=1)http://www.craftster.org/pictures/yourpicture.jpg(/img)
You'll see a tiny dot on your actual post - but it'll show up as a thumbnail image in search results and such!

(and for a visual example of the dot: here's my Ryuk costume. See how just above the text in the post, there's a tiny dot? Right under the horizontal title line, and right above 'Everybodys favorite..." If you do a search for my Ryuk costume, you'll notice a thumbnail is different from the "first" big image in the post!)

Sometimes I'd love to post a different pic for the thumbnail. I can't believe no one has ever asked for that before!

For Friends of Craftster, it's actually a dot and a little camera icon (so Friends can add it to the Favorites section of their profile).

I don't foresee any issue in doing this, though.  I've seen a few people use this method over the years.

I just do this.  I put a nice finished project image first, then text/tutorial/more images.
