Custom Sexy Zombie ShelfSo I just joined Craftster thanks to another craftster member
mthrasher138 and I'm excited to share this shelf that I made for my art room at my new house! *1st one ever, yay debt*
I'm not going to lie I love love love this artwork and drew a lot of inspiration from it DA site:
http://elks4elb.deviantart.com/favourites/?offset=72#/dg62qh and from my own character
http://elks4elb.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d3blots,
http://elks4elb.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d1zpfz3, and
http://elks4elb.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d29ugh3. What can I say: I love zombies, sexy femmes, skulls, and Afros! Bold deadly bomb shells just make my eyes geek out.

1st I plan and plotted how I wanted to compose my art on my wooden board which I bought from Home Depot for under 10 dollars. I got it cut to 47 inches and kept the extra to make another shelf later. I sanded the board, primed it with gesso (white paint works well too) and then hand drew the head and transferred the core of the body with a graphite pencil. Oh duh... I predrilled the holes where the shelf brackets would be so it could be a guide where I stop and start.
Next I selected my colors and started to color with
Prisma Color Pencils. It was fun using pencils on the wood on top of the thin layer of gesso. *Note 2 costs of gesso is suggested, one vertical and one horizontal to seep into the poors of the wood*.

Here's a finished image with assorted loot on the floor from my toddler. Took about 3-4 hours to color with hand breaks included as your hand will get sore from the pressure needed to blend well.

My shelf is intended to hang high over a window and double as functional art curtain holder shelf thingy. I like things that are clever and serve multiable purposes and why the Hell not? It's my house!

Here's another picture with it installed and with the final mod podge lever on for protection. I like the way it antiqued it ever so slightly. It's nice to give it a protection layer of love with some type of clear coat so you can clean it in the future.
I hope you crafty cats enjoy my 1st show-in-tail. I hope it's in the correct location.
If anyone wants to swap I'll be up for that sorta thing later as I want to try more functional art shelves!
