I started on goldfishpollywog's hoop last night. I am hoping it turns out exactly how I see it in my head... though I'll settle for close to exact. Cheesy

I have narrowed it down to what I want to make on haroldlovesmaude's hoop... now I just have to become clever enough to make it happen! Cheesy

I know for sure what I am doing for one of my partners. Can't 100% pin down what I wanna do for the other...

Does anyone else have a hard time figuring out what to do for someone when their tastes/styles are different from yours? How do you end up making a wonderful finished item they will love?

I know I do. It's tough sometimes to know how to make something awesome when you don't fully love something like your partner. (I struggle each time I get a Harry Potter fan.) When that is the case, I rely heavily on pinterest and google. Sometimes I'll even check out past swaps that they've been in to see what others have made for a specific theme that my partner loved or commented on.

This time around I knew in like 3 seconds what I was making for goldfishpollywog, but I had to debate a bit for haroldlovesmaude... so I was really lucky.

When I get really desperate and feel completely lost I turn to my bff, the hubster, and he usually helps me out.

So I've got a theme picked our for haroldlovesmaude now and just need to iron out the details Smiley I've also got a few ideas for beccas_song. I gotta get this mini quilt done this weekend so I can get at it with the hoopla! I can't wait to start!

It can be hard when you have very different tastes - I find it hard to try to make decisions based on what they would like and so I umm  and eerr over every little thing (this fabric or that one? this colour or that one? with this one or that one? this texture / combination / placement.... or that one?) - I agree, I try to emerge myself in there pins, wists, blog, past posts on craftster, any thing else - to get as good a feel as I can for their style.

This swap, I have the opposite problem. I have about 7 ideas that i really want to do because my partner has such similar taste and interests to mine, I have found her pins and questionnaire so inspiring! (High five sista!) ... but now i have to try to choose which to do...

If possible, I find any overlap I can.  Kind of a comfort zone to set myself up in then research like crazy.  Look at what they are drawn to and find elements of it that I feel comfortable working with.  Then stretch myself as much as I can. I have to do this with family all the time.  Every time I've done this on Craftster, I end up joining a new fandom. Roll Eyes
