How to make clothes/fabric look like this?

How would I cut a shirt so that it'd fray/rip like the bottom of the shirt in this picture?

haven't done it before but it looks like you might just make a bunch of little slices with a razor blade all close together then stretch it out with your hands and run it through the wash so some stretch open and some rip all the way......but like i said, i'm just guessing on that one.

i remember in high school all my shirts looked kinda like that on the back because the chairs at school had screws sticking out the backs and it would catch on your shirt and cause all these small holes, which i of course hated, but when its done intentionally all the way around the bottom like that it does look kinda cool

I would use a balled up piece of scrap fabric or old cushion as a form for grating knits, as opposed to a block of wood.

i guess it is rubbed by something, or use the scissors cut them first and rub the holes

I second whoever said make a bunch of little holes. I'd do that and stretch them out. I'd make sure all the holes were different sizes, and also distress it a bit with some sandpaper.

I think you can play around with it...it's t-shirt fabric, so you can maybe practice on some old shirts you don't want to keep anyway? Or pick up a couple of t-shirts at the thrift store until you get the effect you're looking for?
