what type of paint should I use on lightbulbs?

I went to an art show in DC a few weekends ago and one exhibit had lamps whose light bulbs were painted with rainbow dots which gave a really cool feel to the whole room... I want to do this for my room in my apartment but I'm not sure what kind of paint is the safest to use. any insight for this?

I would guess a glass paint would be most suitable, it works well for my lanterns.

Good idea! Glass paint is good option to paint bulb but even you can use permanent marker. Just draw and fill the color.
