Thank you both. Color work for me is a tough one. Better loose, then you can sew them down on the inside. When I knit my color work that isn't a consistent pattern all the way around (like the angry bird hat, the baby boy hat is consistent, hope you know what I mean) I knit it on 2 needles, its easier, then I join and decrease in the round and pick up stitches and do the rib in the round and sew the back closed. Hope that makes sense. That way I don't have too many loose stitches on the inside. When I do the color in the round (baby boy hat) I just slightly stretch the knit stitches before bringing the other color, don't stretch too much, just enough for the knit stitches to align and not be too stretched or too loose. Experience helps. As does having to rip apart and re-do the whole project Smiley.

On my first (sucessful!) color work, I took a fair isle motif from a book of stitch patterns and knit it in the round.

And loveofcuteness is right -- as in most things, ripping out is the best teacher!

cute colorwork hat. I love the look of colorwork and hate doing it. slip stich stuff is ok,but carrying yarn , or having it hanging all over and all that, to much for me

tried to make a lacy leaf without a pattern. didn't work out so well, but its wearable so yea.

Yofi, I love that hat and the heart pattern. I will have to give it a try. That1girl, nice hat. Looks like lace. Sometimes experiments work out:).

Try blocking...with all lace patterns, the holes show up better with blocking...The color is nice...not an obnoxious pink...I bet it looks good on

Awww. Too cute. Son was a premie, and the Woman's Guild knitted him a cute hat like that, given as a gift from the hospital.
