Needle felting cats is what got me into this art/craft, but it has been a while since I had the opportunity to do a serious cat (I've done some cute, fun feline projects). WHile I have a lot of projects that need attention, I decided to start this new year with a feline. My husband is calling this one Pryant (which I think is a reference to its size compared to my Prittens and not its name).

 Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

THANKS!!! I was aiming for real!!

I am a bit rusty on doing a serious cat - Prittens (pretty kittens) used to be all I did, but I've been doing lots of other needle felting projects and classes and I haven't done a serious cat in a couple of years. I really want to do more! I like this larger scale. I did like making ones that could fit in your hand, but there's a lot more you can do with a sculpture when it's a larger scale.

THanks so much!!!  Cheesy Cheesy

He's almost life size for a kitten - 5" to top of his ears and about 9" long (not counting the tail).

9 inches? Wow! I wish I could see it for real and touch it. It's probably better I'm far away!

I've got another in the works. Today I should be refining the body shape and establishing markings. Then I begin the long process of furring! =^..^=

No, I haven't thought about doing the Cheshire Cat. Always loved that character, but I don't think I would want to try and create a grin like that!  Wink  =^..^=

Thanks!!  Cheesy

I did some fur experiments using wool fiber when I first started needle felting and wasn't very pleased with the results so later when I tried doing fur again I used silk because it doesn't "felt/mat" as easily. The silk worked well, but tends to be very glossy and lacks the density of real fur. I only recently retried using wool for fur on these larger cats that I made and the wool works very effectively. I think I should have trimmed it a little bit shorter than I did and will be trying that on the next one I do (when I finally get time to do another one). =^..^=
