I watched a few videos from this woman:  http://www.youtube.com/user/littlecanvases
She has some great ideas and currently, I have about 10 sheets of redone scrapbook paper hanging in my shower, drying. So I understand backgrounds more and feel liberated. I hope to work on some pages this week.

I added several pages to my list. This one is my favorite. I journaled past feelings in pencil, the positive current feelings in ink, followed by watercolors

the face was part of an older sketch that was already on this page. instead of covering it up, i intergrated it into the flower. i'm pretty happy with it, but i still need to add something to the lower right corner.

jenleahlynn - love the way you incorporated the face into the flower and the colours are great.

trinalocakary - love the idea of a making changes journal

LFF - love the page - the colour, texture and embellishments all work so well together

Smmarrt - I'm struggling with backgrounds, so thank you for pointing in the direction of those vids - had a quick look and think they are going to be useful Smiley

I have been trying to catch-up with my 'Embrace the Day' class, but not having much success  Roll Eyes but here are the 3 pages I have managed to do (only 4 behind now Sad )

'Happiness'

'Pride'

'Kindness'

(the pictures should all be the right way up, but if they aren't it's the photo system playing up)

Hi guys! I haven't been very active with my pages but that's because I've been working diligently on my new sketchbook! It's not quite done yet (text block still needs to be glued in and end papers added), but it's done enough for me to show you:

It's bound in deerhide and is over an inch thick (not by design, I overestimated how many signatures I would need Tongue), so I made a buckle closure to keep it tight. This is my very first bookbinding attempt, and I'm very proud of it. It lays nice and square when it's shut and the pages all open up flat. I dyed the hide in Acorn Brown, and I really love the variegated coloring it got. It makes it look worn.

I even added headbands to the ends, just like a real book! I used fairly bright colors, just to catch the eye.

Here are some in-progress pics if you're interested:

All I have left to do is glue in the text block and add the endpapers, then find some nickel corners to protect it.

mini mum, those pages look great! I like the idea of picking a word to journal about.

Leather and Lace, that sketchbook is awesome! I have an elk hide sitting in my truck and seeing your book makes me want to go out in the cold and getting to see what I could come up with :0)

Leather and lace, what a wonderful notebook.

Mini_mum,  Jenleahlynn and Tronolacakary, very expressive pages. I find it so hard to write my feelings and even worse to look at what I wrote afterward. I just want to glue the pages together. I admire your courage. I think my journal is turning into a sketch journal with lots of paintings and drawings but very little words.

leather and lace - that is one great journal! I have taught myself coptic stitch binding, and really must learn more ways of binding a book

yoopidou - there are lots of ways to hide what you write - I use tags and pockets quite often, another technique I use is to write over the same page in different directions to mask the writing. You could also try gessoing or painting over the writing and I'm sure you could think of other ways of hiding your journaling (sticking pages together seems a good one too!). Having said that - pictures can be very expressive, so if you feel more comfortable with that - go with it Cheesy

Thanks for the tip about pockets and tags. I love the idea of pockets. I tried to write in every direction and write above it but I still feel uncomfortable when my husband reads it.
