I am inspired by your work.  I especially like the "goals for my life" page - it is so important to define your goals for yourself.

I am not at all good at drawing people.  Did you try something specific to learn your technique?

teag- I like how you draw people, especially the eyes. I really love your monster though. He is super cute. I get the fears thing, I did a page about fear last year, but I like the idea of the monster with the bubbles.

Smmarrt- Thanks!

teag- completely love your pages!

Love everyone's pages actually!!!
I wish I had the patience and time do things like that. But, to each there own, I will fit it in when I can and how I can.

I started a page, one for my name, but mine is artsy and more journaling with a lot of color haha. I'll be posting a picture soon hopefully.

Tonight was so hard, I was having serious neuropathy problems in my legs (nerves that shoot random messages causing pain and spasms) on top of being so tired I thought I was going to fall asleep during the game but I didn't want to ruin it for everyone so we played extra long and I tried to distract myself by working on a very simple quote art journal page (working on lettering)
6x6" black card stock mounted in a small scrapbook cover (no sleeves)
Prismacolor pencils and gel pen markers.

I think it came out good for how out of it I was.

but taking my pen and writing over it.... gulp....

It gets easier Smiley I think picking a book that has no meaning or memories for you might be a bit easier, but I have found that I sometimes catch myself reading the pages I am suppose to be creating on. It wouldn't be such a big deal if it was after I've ripped half the pages out.

LOL I did this with a pre-teen book, I had glued half the pages together and painted on some when I ended up reading it, it was a discard book and I am glad I read it because it will shape my work in it (it was about a fairy that resembled a dragonfly and getting wishes because you do something good, like save a fairy for no reason other than you think you should) good theme for a book, dragon flies and good wishes

with your journal, do you finish one page before moving on to the next, or do you just around and come back to it? i've started some pages, but i get stuck and don't know how to go about building up the layers.

I actually have about 7 journals of different types, sizes and subjects, I have 2 I carry with me, they are dry medium books, the one I just did is black card stock mounted in a mini 6x6" scrap book and other is small and plain white pages, they are for carrying in my bag, and I use glue sticks, prismacolors and gel pens in them
the ones at home range from loose leaf journals done a page at a time and I offen half prep pages in advance and about 3 altered books and a couple of regular journals, I dont know if I will ever FINISH a journal, not sure I want to.

I was going to join this craftalong as I am working on an art journal- But reading the posts my art journal won't fit in it is drawing heavy with occasional accents of ephemera and background techniques-and lots of actual journaling- I will be stalking thou for ideas

ALL Journals Fit In,
I do different stuff in different journals, I am planning a sketch book in an old teen fantasy book about dragons, I have a how to draw dragons book and I will work my way through it over the text of a book, I might do very very light gesso over some of it but we will see.
What you describe sounds great and just like it will fit in perfectly.

I really need to be in on this so I can get somewhere with my art.
I need a good kick in the pants to get anything done.  I need to stop having that yucky voice in my head telling me that I'm just one of the bottom feeders, I know logically that I'm better than that, i just have to play catchup emotionally.  I'm terrified of putting anything down because I've had too many things twisted against me to hurt me.  I need to scream and yell somedays and not have people be angry at me for doing it.

So if you guys can handle me trying not to be too down and depressed, I'd like to try Smiley  of course, right now I would just take not being sick.... yucky virus that turned into sinus gunk with asthma complications.... yucky yucky yucky!

One thing you might try is to simply write down the darkest deepest most depressed stuff on the plain sheet of unadulterated paper as if it was a journal entry or a technical paper, nothing fancy yet.
Now let it sit over night (or longer) and then without reading it over and over start journaling OVER it, do your designs over the words, choose random or not so random words to leave uncovered but paint, draw, glue, alter the page so the words no longer have power over you.
Do it over and over with different pages, leave a sentence here or there or do single words picked out of the writing to make a short poem that has nothing to do with the original subject.  Take the words that tear up your mind and hide them, incorporate them, work with them til they have no power.
Lenny Bruce (60's comedian) once said if the president were to go on tv everyday and say racial slurs like "kike kike kike kike kike kike...jew jew jew jew jew jew" all night long everyday for a year those words would have no meaning any more, they would just be WORDS, Sounds.
I suffer depression and yes I have done this and yes it helps.

Thank you for this - I have been looking for a way to get rid of some of my crap - I know that art and writing help, but hadn't really thought to combine in this way.
I will be trying out and see what happens.
