For Christmas my dad built me a wheel, and my parents gifted me with a bag of alpaca roving. On Christmas I spun up a 150 yard single, but then I had to stop (Christmas knitting to finish!).

This evening I decided to play some more. I spun up another single, and then spun them together to make a 2-ply. I ended up with 1.6 ounces, approx. 112 yards. It's decently consistent, but there are some places where I had some slubs.

Bad lighting, but here's a dime for size reference.

Knowing my love of color, I will probably end up dyeing this, I just don't know what color(s) I want yet.

Thanks for looking!

That looks great! How did you like that alpaca? How much was in this "bag?" I am intrigued. I can't wait to see more. It's so fluffy! I love the halo it has. I saw your wheel in the other post and wow, you're a lucky lady.

Thanks guys!

I really enjoyed spinning it. For the most part, it was pretty easy to draft. My parents got it at a local alpaca farm. The owner sold it to them at a reduced price, she said it wasn't that good. I disagree with her assessment, but this is the first time I've used alpaca. Anyway, the big bag originally had about 20 ounces in it. My parents split it in half and gave half to me while my mom kept the other half to learn to spin on the wheel that my dad made her. So, I probably got about 10 ounces, but I don't have a scale with a big enough surface area to weigh it.

So, I probably got about 10 ounces, but I don't have a scale with a big enough surface area to weigh it.
If you're able to zero out your scale you can put a bowl or something larger on it, zero it out, then put your big item in the bowl. Whatever the weight is at that point is just the contents of the bowl. Cheesy Beautiful alpaca by the way!

I have done that before, but I knew that the bag wouldn't fit inside my biggest bowl. I found a shoebox that worked, though! I have 8.6 oz left to spin. Smiley
