So we had this big, black, ornate light hanging in our dining area. It was extremely obnoxious. Before:

I painted it between working on other projects over about one month. I used acrylic paints and didnt bother to put a clear coat on the finished piece.

I also bent out the decorative arms, to give the chandelier more openness. The chain was ugly, so after shortening it I bound it together with a piece of trim, then covered the whole thing with a strip of fabric that my mom used as gift wrapping. Stash busting!

Since my husband moved into our apartment in 1995 we aren't expecting our rental deposit back anyway. I might even take this light with us if we move.

Love this!  What a great idea.  The light hanging over the kitchen island now has a paint job in it's immediate future.   Grin

Wow!
I have lived with so many ugly chandeliers in the past but since I was renting I never got to paint them. What a fun transformation.

I really like the bright colors.  It has a much "happier" feeling to it now.

Yeah, we're technically only renting that chandelier too. But my husband moved into this apartment in 1996, so the $300 security deposit isn't coming back anyway (and rent control! oh! the rent control!). And we're going to take the chandelier with us if we ever move.  Grin

Wow that is fantastic! I don't have any chandeliers around but if I see any in the local charity shops I'd definitely consider buying one and giving it a makeover! Smiley

Great idea.  I think I'd like to make a go at my chandelier after seeing what you were able to do with a little creativity.  It really livened up the room with that color.
