This is my first afghan, and my 3rd project using cables. Don't be scaredof cables! They're not so bad! I used a pattern called "Cushy Cables" by Patons which I found on Ravelry. It took the better part of 3 1-pound skeins of Caron in color Ocean. Overall size is about 4' x 5'.

I gave it to Mom for Christmas.  Grin

Beautiful! Is this knit in one piece?

Thanks! Yes, it's knitted in one piece. It was fine in the fall to knit with it on my lap, but I wouldn't want to try it in summer.

Lovely!  Your Mom must be thrilled.  Thanks for the encouragement re: cables.  I learned to knit this year but too chicken to try cables.  It's on the list for next year.
