2013 Annual DeStash-Along

I bought a calendar at A.C. Moore the other day (on my last craft supply shopping spree) and I've decided to dedicate it to this destash. I wrote every month's themes in the top corner of each respective month and everyday I'm going to write down what project I've worked on. So far, I've sewn a patch on my boyfriend's sweater and made a beaded pendant (yesterday) and I am working on organising my craft room today. Just writing down those three things made me feel like I'm off to a good start!

Meowari--that is a good idea!!!  I have a calendar right above my workspace...I could use it to plot out swap deadlines as well...off to print the challenges...

K-star--PROGRESS!  That is a lot of white crochet thread--anything particular that you are making?

Well I have made a start on the destashing for 2013.  This also helps out with a couple of goals that I have this year.  A better organised household and reducing the stash.  I didn't have a good year destashing last year.  I hardly made any thing. But the upside is that hardly anything was added to the stash.

The first thing I have made this year is this over the door purse holder.   I used up almost 2 metres of fabric just leaving a fat quater and some scraps.

K-star--PROGRESS!  That is a lot of white crochet thread--anything particular that you are making?

  ummm no, it was one of those bargains that are too good to miss, I got 30 balls for £2.98 but I'm down to 25 now, I must have given some away as I know I haven't used that much, I struggle to see my chains! I have no idea how they used to crochet size 30 & 50 thread by candlelight in the old days!!  

It might become a tablecloth for my niece when she gets married but its also possible it will sit in that box a while longer.

I really need to do this destashing. My husband keeps reminding to get rid of things. But like someone said there are memories with each thing. A lot is my Mothers things, so it's hard to let go. So maybe this will help. I'll post pics as soon as I can take them. Also I probably need to put each theme on a calender too "meowari" thanks!!!

KStar I made one of those ruffly scarfs out of a ball and it is hard to work with if you have any loss of dexterity. I have a bendable work lamp now on the side of the couch when I sit and crochet.

I think a lot of the large pieces of fabrics could be made into clothes, if I can find a simple pattern I like and can do. My problem is that dining room table. I think I'll just sweep everything into a box. I need a good place to cut fabric and that is my worst aspect of sewing.

I do love clutter, because I am visually stimulated. But this is ridiculous.

I'm in, and I have organized my stash.  It was my over-winter-holidays project and I moved furniture around, de-stashed a bit of stuff that I will never, ever use, and it's all looking pretty nifty. 

I love the challenges and the themes - very inspirational.

Hm, Wulf, now that the new storage thing already sits in the garage, why not fill it there? It would still sit in the garage, but it could already be useful. You could always put it somewhere else later. *keeps straight face*

Oh heavens no, Ruby, you must've mis-read. The storage unit isn't IN the garage, it's OUTSIDE the garage, because there's no room for it in there either.

I started inventorying last night. It's going to be a bit depressing, but it will provide a very useful benchmark to measure my destashing against. For example, I currently have four boxes of leather scraps. Can I get that down to two?

Putting the challenges on a calendar is a brilliant idea. I wonder if I can find a place to put one...
