Hello- I have a very long coat. I want to cut it down to 3/4 or 7/8. Could anyone tell me how long (how many inches from the shoulder or where in relation to the knee) that would be. Its a beautiful muted cranberry wool coat and I don't want to ruin it or make it look odd.   thanks so much- Sally

I would think a 3/4 length coat would be somewhere between your knee and the fullest part of your calf. I suppose it would depend on your proportions to determine the most flattering place for the hem. With my being a short-legged pear-shaped woman, I can't have anything end at the widest part of my calf, because then my legs look even shorter, but just below the knee is very flattering for me.

Try putting it on with the hem pinned up at several different lengths and have a friend take photos of you from across the room. At least 15 feet away, so you get an idea of the proportions involved. Maybe even swap out your most likely footwear choices for each hem length, too.

Best of luck with your project Cheesy
