I agree with previous posters that Saybrook Yarn is great shop for those living in the shoreline area, but if you're looking for the ever elusive Rowan supplier in that region, check out Yarns Down Under.  It's a cute little shop in Deep River, Right off 9.  The owner is really nice and very chatty. She's got a website with clearer directions than I could muster.

i am new here and a new knitter. if any of you are near the naugatuck area there is a knitting store there that is really great.

am i going crazy, or is laceweight a weight of yarn? I was extremely erked when a woman at the village sheep in new milford insisted that sock was the lightest weight and i could use sock weight yarn for a lace-cobweb weight pattern!!!
not only that but they don't do returns, only store credit.
However I LOVE Marji's Yarn Crafts. I've been there three times (alot for me) and the owner is nice but not overly chatting (i hate people that you  can't get away from), prices are nice, suffcient supply of sock yarn, books, and just plan old sweater type yarns. they don't carry addis, but the owner told me that they had ordered them!

I've heard not so great things about the Village Sheep from more than one person.. that they're not all that helpful (especially if you don't buy something. Then they'll drive you out of the store!)

it's a shame, I've been in there and they have good product ( and its really close for me) but I'd rather go someplace where the people are helpful and NICE

I agree! It's such a shame that such a beautiful shop that has such potential has to be ruined by a nasty attitude.

Has anyone been to Knotty Girl in Fairfield? Now there is a shop owner who knows what she is doing! Everyone there is so friendly and down to earth. Whether you're working on a beginner project or some kind of mind bending expert project they are always so polite and helpful. The last time we were in the owner actually asked us to hang out, knit and eat DQ blizzards with them! They are so cool I can't help but sing their praises!

knottygirl is closing dec 1. shame. ugh, CT SUCKS. well the fairfield, bridgeport, stratford areas...joanns closed for the superstore 15 mintues away, all of the local art stores downtown fairfield are closed, feh....nothing crafty and good ever lasts here because there are so few of us. it annoys me that sh*tty bars and clubs stay open for YEARS but great crafty stores close within a few years or months.

No!! I loved KnottyGirl! If it was closer to me I would have shopped there exclusively. The owner is so cool and their shop is gorgeous! That sucks. I hope she has something else going on once its done.
