My mom has been asking me to make a quilt for her for years and I've always been busy, but this year I'm not in the middle of baby quilts or anything that has a deadline. So in September I decided to make a quilt, in late November I decided on a very simple design that wouldn't stress me out, early December I bought the fabric, December 22nd I panicked and finally put the damn thing together almost in time for Christmas. My machine went on strike so I had to finish it at her house after she opened it. Whatever, it's done and she loves it.
I used polyester batting for the first time, I hate it and will gladly spend extra for cotton batting in future projects. I used symphony broadcloth from Joann's for the dark brown border and also don't care for that. It smells weird; and it feels weird next to the 100% cotton fabrics.

Here it is, not quite done, but done enough to wrap up and give her.

It was supposed to be a lap quilt, but ended up being about 65"x75". Too big for a lap quilt and too small for her bed. Meh.

Creepy Kitty wasn't happy that the quilt was taking attention from him.

And here it is, not quite done, but done enough to wrap up and give her.

***Update: I made this to match her living room and a wall hanging I made for her birthday so she could use it while watching tv in her favorite chair. Instead it's folded up at the foot of bed. She says it's too pretty too use. I know people mean that as a compliment, but it irks me when I spend so much time making something and then it doesn't used.  Angry

This is gorgeous!  And that size sounds just right for curling up on the couch and watching a movie on a chilly winter afternoon!

Go to her house for an afternoon of slacking, and use it for her. She'll get the picture, especially once she sees how well it matches.
