I have been knitting socks for a number of years and my favourite method of using up the leftover wool from each pair used to be to knit a pair of socks with all the extra wool UNTIL I saw this pattern:  http://www.redheart.com/free-patterns/knit-roll-brim-hat.  I had no idea how much wool I had until I started to knit these hats.  I love the pattern and I can whip up a hat in an evening of mind-numbing TV.  I have given a couple to my husband, kept one for myself and am giving the rest (with more to come) to the shelter downtown.  This is my first post with pics so I hope it works.  The plain blue hat was the first one I did with this pattern.....used wool that a friend had donated to me.

(Edited to add a photo now that I read the instructions and figured it out.)

Okay, here's more  Smiley

The plain blue hat was knit with 2 strands of the wool and all the others with either 3 or 4 strands of different colours knitted together.

Oh what a wonderful project to use up the leftovers!  They all look so colorful and the pattern is suited for men and women!

Thanks for sharing your lovely hats!  My favorite is number 3...or maybe number 5...

The neat thing is that some of the wool which I never really liked (e.g. camo colour for a pair of grandson's socks that he had asked for) and couldn't find a use for otherwise, actually looks good and completely different when paired with a couple of other colours.  Another bonus.  Of course, now I get to buy more wool as my bag of "odds and sods" is almost empty now.
