great quilts everyone. I so wanted to get my WIP done this month, its only straight line stitch in the ditch quilting and since its roddler size its not a great deal of binding, but it just didn't happen.

stupid quilting police! I was at the fabric store once getting random cuts of sale fabrics and was asked incredulously 'what are you making with all this??!' when i replied i was just collecting fabrics that i liked and said that i probably had plenty to go with them at home he said 'oh you should buy all the fabric for a project together so you get matching collections with the same dye run'. I was like um thanks for that advice. I'll take my chances with my random collection!

Some people do go from shop to shop looking for the same dye lot...  how they know the numbers in the first place boggles my mind.

I knew about dye lot for yarn, I never even thought about it for fabric. Of course, I don't necessarily care if the fabric I use is from the same collection. I mix and match using whatever looks good to me.

I think dye lot only matters for something like Kona if you are using solids for the background of a quilt. A friend got two different dye lots (because she ran out mid-project and ordered more online) and it was extremely noticeable, but that's kind of rare I think.
