I took Spanish in high school for 4 years. I wanted to brush up on my 'skills' and found that my local library had a cpu program that I could check out for a month at a time.  So that was free. I had to wait on a waiting list for a little while, but in the end it was worth it. It wasn't Rosetta Stone, but it was a comprehensive set.  I didn't get through it all, but I figured I know where to go next time!

missmoppet--I apologize for forgetting about the link to my easy peasy socks!  Once you learn the basics, you can just about use any pattern...my first sock was just all knit in the round but now I can follow a textured pattern or cables or lace...it is fun and addicting!  I will go through and find the links and send them to you...they are all free and pretty easy and fast!

I also recommend using the library resources or even some colleges will allow you to audit for a reasonable fee!  Knowing another language just plain makes sense in our global world...even a few words are fun!

bookstorebabe, your keys are fantastic.

I've only recently heard of quilling. It looks like fun. Does anyone know of any beginner tutorials?

Thanks everyone!  I'm going to get Madrigal's Magic Key to Spanish from Amazon for a start.   RS is expensive but thankfully we have access to it at work.  The bummer is that you have to listen to it there which is why I was considering purchasing it because that way I could share it with Lana.  She takes Spanish at school and has lessons, but really needs work on her conversational skills.  (so do I!)

(Hey guys, iTunes has a bunch of Podcasts/iPhone apps/iPad apps/University Spanish programs for free. Don't know how good or in depth they are, but it's something!)

Avesthel, those drawings look fantastic! I think they would make great notecards.

bookstorebabe, love those altered keys. I can't even pick a favorite! Smiley

I took Spanish in high school for 4 years.

O_o

4 years?!  I nearly failed my first year!!!  I was getting a 59.6% in that class and the teacher rounded it up to 60% just so I could pass.  I never took it again (though it was supposed to be a requirement that every student take 2 years of language.  and I was NOT about to take French.  my HS was so small and crappy that it only offered those 2 languages.  that is until my senior year came and they offered German.  still wouldn't take it even though my grandma is German).  I can say a few words in Japanese, German, and Spanish and know what they mean, but I can't have any kind of conversation.  if you've ever seen American Dad, there is an episode where Roger is dancing to a Spanish song.  I completely understand the first quarter of the song, but I'm lost after that.  "El perro, el perro, es mi corazón.  El gato, el gato, el gato no es bueno."  Grin  here's a clip of the full song sung live I believe by the same guy who sang it for the show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jN0X7hHNpuk.  I listened to the translation, and some more of the words clicked, but I wasn't familiar with some others (anyone who has seen Beverly Hills Chihuahua seen once knows what "mi corazon" means Wink).  here's the whole set of lyrics:

"El perro, el perro, es mi corazon!

El gato, el gato, el gato no es bueno!

Cilantro es cantante, Cilantro es muy famoso!

Cilantro es el hombre con el queso del diablo!

El perro, el perro, nunca sin razon

El gato, el gato, el gato es obseno

Cialntro es amante, Cilantro es cariñoso

Cilantro te da besos, mejor que tu esposo"

it's a funny song.  Wink  it's from American Dad, after all.

got really badly triggered the other night. Took hours for me to calm down and go to bed (happened about bedtime - as these things do Roll Eyes - and was 3am before I got upstairs) but in the meantime this was produced:

The background was produced by writing - I think in the end there were 3 layers of writing in different directions, followed by acrylic paint then the collage and doodling, before finally journalling.

(can I enter this in the 'non-fabric' part of March challenge?)
