You guys are incredible!!!  I have been traveling a lot and nursing a bad hand, so I have some catching up to do this weekend!  I am excited to see who will win the July/August challenge!!

Congrats to everyone who won in the Craftster 10th anniversary board challenge...there were just so many wonderful stories and projects!

I was just thinking the other day about what a diversely talented group of people we have here...from pickles to designing fabrics...knitting, crocheting, jewelry...just wonderful!

A special shout-out to you, smashu, for winning the Spoonflower challenge in August!  I am going to order that fabric!  woo hoo...I collect prints like that and I think it is just the perfect colors as well...I posted it in the craftalong news as well!

Whew...  I gave myself time this morning to try and catch up on all things craftster.  The gang here has been incredibly busy.  I can't even begin to comment on each project, I have missed so many.  Let me just say keep up the awesome work!

The thing that I have been noticing is that the complexity and quality of the projects keeps going up.  Having participated in this craftalong for a number of years, I've watched many of you 'grow up' as craftsters.  It is so fabulous to see how you've developed your skills in one medium or branched out to try many many new things.

I used to work in the middle of the three art fairs in Ann Arbor.  The one downtown was good but I always thought of it as entry level artists.  Not to dismiss or demean their craft in any way.  This was the easiest fair to get into.  Some would stay and some would disappear.  It was the affordable fair.  The next level was the fair just outside my office.  It was a step up.  The jury was trickier.  The art was more refined.  Then there was THE show.  Folks there were in the big time.  They would sell six figure pieces to the celebs.  As artists improved, they would move up from one to the next.  The fun as a poor grad student was to try and figure out which main street artist would hit the big time.  We'd spend our limited dollars as an 'investment' in those artists.  Then we'd celebrate with them as they moved 'up'.

Watching my craftster friends create over the years has been just like that.  I am always thrilled to see what you are making today and to reflect on how your projects have changed over the years I've been watching.  The quality and quantity is always getting better.  It is amazing.  I'm wishing I could have invested in most of you while you were still on main street!

The cool thing here though is that it isn't just a celebration of bigger, better, more amazing.  It is a celebration of making, trying and even failing.  Some of the most amazing projects come under the 'my first' label.  I love that we celebrate our lopsided, lumpy and less than perfect first efforts.  I love that we can be proud of the process and that the community supports those efforts with encouragement, expertise and ideas.  That gives us all the freedom to try something new, to share our efforts, to learn and to try again.

Thank you all for your inspiration.

oh wow...waggonswest.. .what a beautiful summation of this wonderful group of craftsters....it has warmed my heart to see the growth of each person...what started as a challenge for "quantity" actually turned into an evolution of progressively complex and more refined projects for many...I remember the first Teesha Moore style patches/bags, the first stencils, the first crochet hats, the first jars of jams...and now, wow wow wow...the firsts will always be special, but each project thereafter just gets better and the pride of creating grows with each project...wow

meantime, I am so buying that fabric, smashu...I would love at least a fat quarter in each colorway! Grin

CHALLENGE ENTRY

My little girl needed somewhere to keep her books (she likes to read in bed), so I made her a little pocket to keep them in.

The projects thread is here.
