You cannot master what you will not try

Beautiful gourd bowls. I like how you put some kind of weaving on the rim.
It makes me want to try gourd art too.

You should try it.  It's messy when you have to clean out a gourd, but you can paint on them or woodburn without opening them up.  I just prefer making functional art.

is a gourd like a pumpkin? They are pretty amazing, especially if they are pumpkins!

I'm feeling inspired by your gourds to give it another go! did you woodburn or paint them? how long will they last?!

First of all, gourds are in the pumpkin family, in that they grow just like a pumpkin.  They have a hard shell, where a pumpkin is softer.

I woodburn or carve all of the gourds.  I've never tried painting on them, but I've seen some beautiful painted gourds.  As for how long they will last,  I cannot say.  I've seen some that were many years old.  Once all of the stuff is out of the inside, there's nothing to cause it to decay.

Gourds can be carved.  I've drilled holes in them with a hand held drill.  And I know that you can cut them with a coping saw.  I have also carved them with a dremel, but you have to go slowly because the gourd isn't very thick and you can go right through it.

There are also different types of gourds.  If you find a canteen gourd, which is what I use, they are thicker, so they are easier to carve.

Find a gourd and experiment with it.  I think you'll have a good experience.

That's awesome always! I've always wondered how you managed to keep everyone in line, the craftalongs are prolific!

Pinokeeo - Your creations are insanely impressive and beautiful as usual.

I've kind of slowed down a bit on the crafting front because I've seemed to have developed a case of carpal tunnel  Undecided which is making any stitching a bit painful at times. But it looks like I can still screen print with little trouble  Wink I made a new banner for my blog that is mostly layers of screen print, with a bit of stitching embellishment to finish it off.

I was planning on using it for my etsy banner too but it's a bit too big so I guess I'll be making another banner for my etsy which I'll share later!

I love your banner!  It shows off your wonderful screen printing!  Hope you rest up that wrist...carpal tunnel is nothing to fool around with!  I know tons of people who have already had surgery and it is not a fun thing...rest rest rest!

Pinokeeo: Amazing gourds!

sheepBlue, I love your banner. I agree with AIMR, carpal tunnel is a pain! I get it off and on if I type a lot at work (and from holding my daughter.) get yourself a good stiff brace made for carpal tunnel and wear it at night. It's uncomfortable at first, but it really helps a lot! I put it on if I start to feel twinges and I can usually make it go away.

Thanks for the tips! I have yet to spring for a brace to wear at night, but I probably will in the coming week. I've been doing my best to be mindful of keeping my wrists straight when I can and it seems to help a little.
