I finished these literally just in time for Christmas. I sewed together to body of the stockings yesterday and embellished the tops all day today. I've been saving four burlap coffee sacks since October 2011. I bought them at a festival in Micanopy, FL, because I knew that eventually I would have something to do with them. And then of course I didn't have a set of stockings since this was the first full year that I have been out of college and only the second Christmas away from home. I had all the supplies for these stockings already on hand. It was meant to be! And they match perfectly with my rustic/woodland themed tree.
All of them:
My husband's: the top band was made using a pair of shorts that my little brother outgrew years ago. The buttons are vintage from my crafting collection, and the felt is leftover from the felt badge swaps.
Mine: the top band was made with fabric that I got 5 or 6 years ago for making pillows for my first college apartment (never actually made them). I embroidered my initial and part of the paisley design. I might go back later to add more embroidery to the paisley... I didn't sketch out the "J" first, so it looks a little wobbly...
Guest 1: The red fabric was given to me as leftovers from a re-upholstering project from someone I used to work with. It has been in my stash for 3-4 years. The buttons are from my vintage collection. I also made a badge for my mother-in-law since she is staying with us this Christmas. The badge detaches so I can use the stocking for other guests later (or display it without a letter).
Guest 2: The green fabric was from a pillowcase from my first linen set for college. The pillowcases had started to fray around the edges, but I really liked the fabric and kept them
The red flower is the same fabric as above, and the center button is from my vintage button stash.
The inside of all of them are red flannel (also given to me by someone I used to work with, and the hanger loops are made from felted sweaters (leftover from the pillowcase swaps). Next year I hope to made a tree skirt to match since I still have two and a half coffee sacks left
If I can ever convince my parents to come for Christmas, I will have to make more stockings and letter badges!
