First art quilt

I recently took a class through my local quilt guild that was outside my box and a bit of a challenge.
The class was based on Jean Wells' techniques. We didn't use rulers for any of the cutting, there was no specific pattern to follow and we had to use mainly solids.
I did keep to a color palette that was comfortable for me since the rest of the process was not.
Anyway, this is my finished piece. It is about 17" by 18" and still needs quilting, but I haven't decided yet on what thread I should use or what type of quilting would enhance the overall piece.
Any suggestions would be wonderful.

Oh, I like it! I will have to look up that technique, sounds intriguing. When I have squares within squares I like to do diagonal grid quilting, but I mostly stick  to straight line quilting so someone who does free motion might have a more exciting idea

I was thinking straight line stitching, but wasn't sure if I should go horizontal, vertical or a bit of both. I had thought diagonal, but then thought it might be too much. Maybe I am just over thinking it all together.
