Okay, this is my first quilt so go easy on me. My husband LOVES Zelda, and I thought this would be an alright idea for a first project. I got lazy with the actual quilting part, only doing every 3rd or 4th line diagonally, and the binding is a little weird. I think using batting was a bad call, and not using it probably would have made it a lot easier. Lots to learn yet, but having fun doing it!

It's on our queen sized bed for reference. What do you think?

Oh my gosh, this is awesome! I looove Zelda! I bet your hubby will be ridiculously excited! Amazing first project!

What thickness of batting did you use, and how did you baste it? Low loft batting that is like 1/8 inch thick and spray basting seems to be easiest for me, but I still hate the basting stage.

Thanks guys! He loves it! As for batting, I didn't know there were different thicknesses, lol. I think it was about a quarter inch thick I think? Honestly I didn't do very much research when I started doing this, so I'm not even sure what you mean by spray basting? Is that where you sew everything together, like the diagonal lines I have up there?

The sewing part is actually the quilting! Basting is when you put the top, middle (batting) and back together and fasten it somehow so it doesn't shift on you when you quilt it. Large safety pins are one way to baste, but the way I prefer is to buy a can of spray basting, which is a spray adhesive. So then I stick the batting layer to the backing, and then flip it over and stick the other side of the batting layer to the quilt top. I think the better a job you can do on the basting, the less frustrating the quilting will be!

You did an awesome job, hopefully you learned a few tricks to make it easier on you next time!

That is awesome to know! I just used the long sewing pins. Bot of those ideas are way better! Thanks!

Yeah I did one of my first ones with long pins and I scratched myself up quite badly while quilting it! It hurt!
