I have been taking old crib bumpers and turning them into kitty beds. It takes about 2 hours with hand-sewing. There are ties on the bumpers where they tie onto the crib rails. I left them on and the cats love to play with them as they are in the bed. Here is Smokey enjoying his...

I absolutely love this idea!!! I've been looking for something new for my outside cats. Is there something in the bottom or do you put it on the blanket? Ingenious!

Jinjeet, you fold the bumper in half so it is two long 'snakes' on your table. Cut thru both layers (easy) to make two 12 inch pieces. Sew these 2 pieces together and that is the bottom of your bed. then just put BOTH layers of the remaining bumper piece in a circle and sew them together, either all 'round or in strategic places to hold them together. A bumper is pretty flimsy, so I use two layers so it stands up nicely. Just sew your two-pieced bottom to the rounded top. Be sure to have the ties (that go on the crib rails) exposed, some on inside, and some on outside of the bed for them to batt around and play with.

Jinjeet, I have found soooo  many bumpers in Salvation Army, Goodwill, and independent consignment stores for about two bucks. I think they go cheap cuz no one really wants a used one for their brand-new baby....

Thanks blupaisan. I don't have access to those stores but I do know of a second hand store fairly close by that she just may have some. Or/and I can ask in my small community if anyone is "finished" with theirs.

I have a 17-year-old incontinent cat who has peed in this bed twice. So it has gone thru the wash 2 times and came out fine.  so glad it can hold up like that, and it is only hand-stitched!
