If you were going to make a bag for yourself, what would you include?  I'm trying to decide what purse I want to make - actually one for myself that I won't give away - and I'm waffling between something simple or something that will challenge my abilities.  Obviously, I am having some decision-making issues, so any input would be appreciated.

I currently have a small purse, which has its benefits, but also its drawbacks, so I think I'm going for a medium-sized purse.  Perhaps with a zipper!

Having made 2 whole purses ever, I'll use my fave store bought purse as an exemplar Tongue

It's silver faux leather, about 16 inches long, trapezoidal in cross section with a gusseted zipper. The carry straps are long enough that I can wear it as a backpack, which I do frequently because I cram so much stuff into it (like my work shoes). One inside zipper pocket across from a cellphone pocket that I did use when I had a cellphone, and one exterior zipper pocket.

It's not a large purse, per se, as I've seen absolutely massive ones, but I still call it my "baby smuggler" Tongue

The most I've ever crammed into it: work shoes, two hard cover books, a water bottle, and random little things in the interior zipper pocket. That was tight fit!

Forget about technique - instead, what's practical for you?

I have one giant tote with a book pocket, a lunch bag pocket and a pocket for my small bag (phone/wallet) that I take to work, a medium bag that can hold a book, phone, and wallet for places I have to wait (garage, dentist, or whatever), and my small bag with separate snap pouch to hold my credit cards, and pouch that has my phone and kleenex and stuff. I have the small bag on a long cross-body strap so I can be hands free.

A bag for every occasion! And I make new ones every 6 months, JUST BECAUSE I CAN HAHAHAHAHA!

Woo hoo!  Thank you both for your input.  I'm in the plotting stages still. Cheesy

My bag is about 17" wide by 14" high by 4" deep, with a cross-body strap and a zipper closure.  One large interior pocket, divided into two, for cell phone and small stuff, plus a key fob.  Oh, and it's made of seat belt webbing, which is the strongest stuff in the Universe to make a purse out of!

if I were to make on for my self, I'd make one with 3 openings.. kind of like this

http://www.amazon.com/espe-Elegance-Messenger-Cross-body-Handbag/dp/B00A19TK6U.. it has 2 zippered sections and between those sections is another compartment.

I have a vogue pattern for something similiar but I read some reviews that say it has some errors.. and I also kinda want to figure it out myself!
