I'm proud of this. It's a present for my younger sister, who's wanted one ever since seeing them on pintrist.
I decided to make a smallish one.  I had a hard time finding a mirror with a frame I could cover so-the base is a seven dollar ceiling medallion from the home improvement store. The mirror is a makeup mirror from the dollar store-I heated an old knife in a candle flame to cut off the handle. E6000 glue. Paint the mirror frame white, glue on a string of blue beads to cover the edge, glue a string of pearls around the outside edge of the medallion, glue a plain white string of pearls between the mirror edge and the frame to fill in  abit-that one is mostly hidden by the jewelry.
Cue old broken jewelry from my stash, from my mom and another sister, from the Goodwill, from other craftsers, ect. Add in fancy buttons. Fill in with glass gems, and tiny beads and pearls. The back is cut to size cardboard-and some insulation foam I had to fill in and make a flat surface. Painted and a hanger added.
I'd do this different next time. The medallion I chose had a curved surface, which was challenging to cover at times.
I still like how it came out!

Detail shots.

If you look closely, it's circle of blue beads, pearl circle (that matches the outside edge), and a plain pearl string filling in the valley-that third strand is mostly hidden by shinies.

The back.

I can't wait to see her face when she opens the box!

She will be stunned....it is gorgeous...hope you did not accidentally use anything real...you could end up given her a VERY expensive mirror! Cheesy

When you say smallish...what is the diameter of this?...it looks fairly large to me!

It's about 10 inches across.
The jewelry for the most part was broken-backs gone, stones missing, ect. Trust me, nothing is made from real gems! It's all costume jewelry. The rhinestone butterflies were from the Dollar store on clearance, a string of rhinestones I used came from a bag of broken Guess jewelry I bought at Goodwill, ect.

This is so nice, and looks beautiful. All of the elements go so well together, and I'm sure she will be ecstatic.
