I'm excited to do this as a Craft Along (not signing up because I've NO idea what I'm doing!! I'll feel pressured enough to do a good job on my own. Creating for somebody else would stress me out like crazy). I will definitely share the cards I create Smiley

Do you need to do anything to get rid of the coating on the cards, or can you paint/craft/etc right over it?

I really have no idea what I am doing either and I'm the co-org! You should join us!

Here's an interesting page I just ran across: http://digitalprojects.libraries.uc.edu/napc99/PlayingCardsExhibit/index.html

Brief playing card history. I know, not APC, but still interesting.

littlehajerika: I will think about it while I'm out and about today Smiley I'm going to be crafting later and I'll attempt one. Really, this is just so outside my realm of comfort. I'm organizing an "Adult" swap and thought I could play around with APC techniques geared that way, no pressure if I totally mess it all up lol.

Like mini_mum has mentioned before, I prefer to gesso mine before decorating. I've tried to work with the shiny coating on the cards and it doesn't turn out well Tongue. I don't know of anything that would take off the coating without damaging the card (it would probably be more effort than it's worth, anyway).

Also, as a question to our organizers, how do you guys feel about extra cards? I thought I might send more than two to each partner (I wouldn't expect any extras sent back to me, of course), but I want to check with you to see if that is okay.

Okay... you guys got to me!! After looking at APC/ATC cards all day (I now have an inspiration board on my Pinterest of ones I like or cards that inspire me in some way) and then opening the journal prompt links... I caved. Just sent in my questionnaire. And apparently I have to go buy some gesso tomorrow.

I do NOT need another crafting hobby. No way. No how. But... okay. Smiley At the very least it can be a case of I came, I saw, I conquered (or at least survived!)

Whoever gets me as a partner: I'll just let you know up front, I'll try my best. But I'm not really into paper crafting or stamping at all. I dabble at best, and only when I have to.

I caved as well. I have been watching this swap since it was in the "think about thread". I had myself convinced that I was  not going to do anymore swap for a couple of months after I am done with the ones I'm already in. Well as you can tell, that didn't go over so well. LOL  Shocked

I'm going to leave for work early today so I can go by Micheals to purchase some gesso as well. I've never worked with it before but there is always a first for everything.

Today's the last day to sign up if we have anymore lurkers, thinkaboutit-ers or otherwise!

Those of you who have signed up but haven't been approved yet should be added by the end of the day.

only 5 hours to go folks (well - you'll have a few more cos I ain't doing groups until I get some time tomorrow!!)

Witchhippie and Eclectic Dreamer - don't worry about gesso if you have acrylic paint - it works just as well, if not better Smiley and if you are going to collage you don't need the gesso either as the glue will take to the card as it is.

Glad you joined us Smiley

If you feel like putting extra cards in then, go for it Cheesy

I just glued paper to each side - the gesso-ing took too much time for impatient me.
And you could lightly sand with a low-grit sand paper. I have one of those sponge-y blocks of san paper and I use it for just about everything from paper to fabric to wood.

mini_mum: Yaay!! Thanks for that info! I really didn't want to spend any money. I need all my pennies right now to go dancing tonight. I've got acrylic paint. And all sorts of stick-it-to-em type stuff.
