A couple of new dresses: Dragon and Butterfly (pic heavy)

I haven't shared here in a while, but I was really excited by how these turned out! First is a dragon dress:

I sketched out a bunch of dragons until I came up with one I liked:



I originally planned to just do a band of blue at the bottom, but I had this scrap of fabric from when I cut out the dragon and it was a sort of swirly wave shape. When I laid it on the bottom of the dress, it was like a lightbulb went off! I decided to make a whole wave applique all the way around the hem.





I've also been wanting to do a realistic butterfly applique forever. This is what I came up with:

Layered together:


Then I lightly drew in detail lines with chalk and sewed it with black thread:


And here it is all together with the dress I made:
