I was wondering if it was possible to "weather prooof" pegboard for use in my outdoor Xmas light display (I live in Chicago). I was wondering if I need to use a water-sealer on it or if a coat of paint will do? I'm kind of looking for a once and done solution so I can mount the lights and use it every year. Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I think I would put a sealer on over the paint - and probably put a couple of coats of it on.  However, if you want something that will be out in all weathers for a long period of time, it will ultimately still weather, and may need to be refinished every few years - especially with the eposure to extreme weather and if they salt the streets/paths.

Use a couple of coats of marine varnish (made for boats, but usually available at hardware stores), and it will probably be good for 15 or more years (assuming you leave it in the weather for only a month or so each year).
