there is still time to join the junker jane inspired doll swap tonight, when i was really really supposed to be doing something else i felt the call of fabric. so, with not a lot of time, but feeling so Christmas spirited, I created this simple elf with a nod to junker jane and the upcoming swap:

I feel like I have the Grinch on my belly this year too Cecilia! Zero Christmas spirit here.  So I love her!  And she reminds me that the holidays don't have to be all about perfect sparkly things only

Dang, she's cute--I'm loving Cecilia! You do such a good job with the Junker Jane style, the face fabric really looks aged, how did you do that?

thank you sue and leslie!! leslie for my instant coffee faces i use muslin usually or any cotton fabric that is light and lightly patterned. i soak a small piece in warm water (all i need for a face) and then sprinkle instant coffee directly on it and squeeze the fabric a bunch to get the coffee color spread around and to get it all wrinkled.

i leave this alone for a short time only--enough to get some shades of color going---then i rinse and sprinkle some more in just a few areas--leaving some trails of grains if that happens. perfect circles isnt what im going for.  that's what gives it the blotch. i leave it alone in the (dry) sink.  maybe maybe half an hour? then rinse it all out.

bonus: when you iron the fabric, it smells like somebody is brewing a cup just for you!

why this is looking so long i have no idea--its really a simple thing!!

Thanks for sharing your coffee-project with us. Must try something like that one day, it normally leaves stains I can't wash out so it should work here too!

Susan your Cecilia jj is great! Those stains are very creative, I love her! The tip to iron the fabric after the coffee soaking sounds so good I can smell the coffee coming right through the CP LOL!!   Fantastic design!!

I've tried tea-staining but it always seems to wash out when rinsing.
