I love the spiral of dots idea too! If you get tired of following the weather, you could pick colors to match your mood. I have a hard time with French knots, but remembered that I could do colonial knots at one time. Plus they are a bit bigger!

I think I'll need to do some practice knots, first. And somewhere, I have a Colonial knot tutorial. If I'm still struggling with the French knots, I'll use the Colonial, instead Smiley

Can you post a link or explain this colonial knot?  I am not good with French knots either...I don't want to get frustrated with this project since it is suppose to be calming for me! Cheesy

I decided to do a small quilt.  Here are the sky fabrics I have so far.  I also decided for each holiday, I will not include a sky observation.  Instead I will include some pattern related to the holiday.  That way, there will be random splashes of holiday color throughout.  So far I've got Easter, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Fourth of July and Halloween covered.  I'm on the hunt for something for New Years and Groundhog day.   Smiley

Now that is ambitious MW. I'm sure it will be beautiful.

ETA, 19 x 19 give 361 so you could take 4 of the days with half a piece. Like Christmas, could be half Christmas Eve, half a square Christmas Day, same for New Years, Thanksgiving and (any other holidays have typical eves)?

oh that is an awesome idea! Cheesy

Those sky colors are really pretty...and I am sure you can add more since many fabrics are similar in color!  And, to record a year of your life in a quilt...that is inspiring!

Here's a comparison of French knots & Colonial knots with pictures:

I definitely need to practice first!

Thanks!  I like the compact and more solid look of the colonial knot!!  French knots always looked floppy to me and if you don't tighten them just right, they flop right or left or just hang a bit above the cloth...I think I will practice as well...less than two weeks before starting our projects!!

I bought a clear shoe box bin to hold my yarns and stuff--I am going to divide my balls of yarn into two so I can move them around a bit more easily while I knit...

I need to prepare my hoop as well...I am not 100% sure I am going to do it here, but it appeals to me to have a hoop full of knots...Cheesy

I could never figure out French Knots but then I found TroubleT's tutorial on her blog and now I have no problem.
