Hi everyone,

I am still quite new to crafting and everything I make seems to be in faux fur (hides mistakes reallyligh easily) but I have a pattern I want to complete but the fabric I need is doeskin (please tell me it is not actually made from animals)

I was wondering what is a good alternative for doe skin?? Would felt or fleece work just as well?? Or do I need to buy some doe skin online. If so can you direct me to a website that sells it??

I am in Australia and I have been to Spotlight, lincraft and smaller places, but can not find it.

Thanks in advance Smiley

Sadly, real doeskin is made of exactly what it sounds like. When my late Mother made us all Native Medicine bags, I asked her not to make mine from doeskin. She used a very fine velvet instead. There is not much that feels just like doeskin. You might want to try fabric that is called microsuede or peachskin. They are about as close as you will get and are not animal products. Good luck!

Thank you!!

That may be why I can not get it in Australia as well. Possible customs issues.

I'd prefer to not use animal products if I can help it Smiley

You could try doe suede.  It is a synthetic material.  It is NOT made from animals.  Doll makers use it a lot.

Ok doe/deer suede is really really expensive over here..

Any one know some good suppliers with reasonable shipping to Australia. Why do I live in a place girth by sea. Lol

I'll try to find some links to suppliers of bear and doll making materials.  But, doe suede is probably going to be expensive no matter where you go.  There is also ultra and micro suede.  Suede is an expensive material all the way around.
