I was thinking of suggesting a ribbon on mine - not essential if it doesn't work with teh rest of the design, but may help with storage Smiley

I love doing these swaps on craftster because, with so much talent around I get really inspired, and it makes me push myself to craft as best I can, while at the same time I know that it's a supportive environment. I can ask questions, or make suggestions, or just comments about how I see something - everyone's ideas and style are valid, so it's a real hub for different vibes. So, like here - one person likes the cuter dolls, I love the brokenness, someone else will like some other element - it's not an argument or a competition, just an exchange that makes me look at the different ways that an idea can be interpreted, so it makes me consider the different ways the things I make could be seen
Also, since I'm swapping I have a deadline with forces me not to procrastinate too much but just focus on the project in hand!!

I think the tea staining is a great idea. It will give the fabric an aged, vintage look.

I clicked through JJ's sold items on Etsy -- all 20 pages of them! Her style has definitely evolved! Some of her early stuff has a cuter feel especially her variation of a  Raggedy Ann doll.  Her recent work has definitely taken a darker turn--with the zombie mouths etc.

I read an interview of her somewhere. She was a stay-at-home mom who took an interest in the indie arts scene and decided she HAD to be part of it. She didn't know how to sew at first--borrowed a sewing machine--and when that flopped she hand-sewed things in the beginning.

So to sum up "We don't need no education. Teacher! leave those kids alone!" Smiley

Hey--I just used the spell check feature on this site. It only took me 4 years. Duh!

Hahahaha! LOL!! I think that was the only feature I knew to use immediately (but that has probably more to do with me not being English/American  Wink )

BTW I agree with the rest of what you said, I always feel so welcomed here and challenged at the same time. Love it!!

I hate having to wait until the next round, but things are too hectic to join this time. I love everyone's practice dolls, though, and I can't wait for the gallery!

My first experiment with bleaching out some color was a bust.  No color moved at all.  Stupid modern color fast fabrics!  (I had just bought a remnant at a fabric store to try this on).  So, I'll have to get an older piece out to try this technique on I guess Grin

To all past swap partners....If something I made you fell apart in some way, it would be helpful to me if you PMed me and told me about it.  Sometimes, I try new things, and if they fail, it helps me to know

Hey  gigglygirl, I just heard that song just now, listening to the 12-12-12 convert on the radio! My first poppet was completely hand sewn. And Yes, I believe everyone is an artist.
Noodle-bug, me too about the deadlines. Wink
Suereal, I've seen beach stenciling on tshirts, so the bleach thing must work on some fabrics...?

Yup bleach does work on cotton fabrics.  What I bought looks and feel like cotton, but the bleach did not move any dye.  So either the dye is some new space age stuff, or it is not cotton.  Since it was a remanent, I will never know Grin.  In the olden days (yes, I am old enough to say stuff like that Grin) you could count on bleach to change just about any fabric you applied it to.  So I'm guessing it's the dye.  Once the fabric dries I'll set fire to it and see if it is indeed cotton.

It may be sizing on the fabric - and yes, I'm old enough to remember and reference sizing! - so maybe try washing it a time or two. The best success I've had with bleach-dyeing is with well-worn and washed tee-shirts.
