Hi fellow students!  I'm just getting caught up here, and am so impressed by all the amazing work that has gone on!  I had to take a break while some of the students here were re-doing their dormitories (new beds for all the kids!), which amounted to a lot of building. Smiley

I've been working on a sort of shadowbox of Shell Cottage and have a question.  I've included part of the cottage, a cliff-top sea view, some "sea lavender" (dried lavender from my garden) and rose bushes.  (Remember when Harry digs Dobby's grave between 2 bushes?  I've always pictured them as rose bushes, even though that's not how they're described.)  I have a little space that needs to be filled and I can't decide what to do.  I could space the bushes and put a little headstone between them for Dobby, but I'm not sure that's not a little too sad for my 11 year-old's wall. Sad  Any other suggestions for what might be found in a Magical garden?  I thought of gnomes, but they make me angry, LOL!  Angry Cheesy

What about a scrap of faded fabric, for Dobby's tea towel?  It would allude to Dobby, but nto be as sad as a grave.

OWL UPDATE

I have bad news...I am not going to finish my OWL in time. I have been busy with the OAHPT swap and just have not had time to work on multiple things. I will still post some pictures when I'm done though!
NO worries AugustBell!  Your OWL will carry over to the Spring so all is not lost. Smiley

Best news I've heard all day!!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Bertue Botts Mini-challenge: Grass
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Quorn and goat cheese salad
Project Page Link (if available):http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=420521.0
Brief Description:
I care a lot about the environment (Weve only got one inhabitable planet!) and I like to do my best to limit my impact. I'm a diligent recycler, I don't have a car but do everything by bike or public transportation, I avoid throwing out leftovers, and there's plenty of other things I do, like eating pizza after baking cookies (preheating the oven is a big waster of energy, so I prefer to couple my baking and save on total preheating time in the long run). One point where I'm definitely not doing what's best for the environment, is in my diet. I eat meat or fish nearly every day, having a vegetarian day about once every 3 weeks. I let the Flemish/Dutch campaign "Dagen zonder vlees" (Days without meat) which coincides with Christian lent, seduce me to bring down my meat consumption. One day without meat or fish brings down your ecological footprint by about 11m (1000 liters of water saved & 2kg of greenhouse gasses!)

In the past week, I've had four fully vegetarian days and the dish below looks so appetizing and tastes so yummy that I really didn't miss the meat at all! I won't become a full time vegetarian anytime soon (I'm a sucker for smoked salmon, other fish and bacon and our traditional "stoverij") but I will definitely ditch the meat more often!

project-shrinky dink sun catcher

this was a team project with my daughter. she was looking for a gift idea for her grandmother. we had bought plain 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of shrink film for another project. we took a full sheet and sanded it so we could use colored pencils instead of markers. then she drew a hummingbird and flowers and colored them in. we punched holes for hanging, then into the oven. it shrank to the size of a photograph and the plastic ends up about 1/8" thick. it's hard to show in a photo but the light comes through it nicely. grandma loved it.

trying to find the picture....

finally found my pictures saved under 2012 instead of 2013. ugh.

Class/Challenge/House Pride:Horcrux: Nagini
House:Slytherin

Brief Description: Since Nagini is a reptile his distant relatives were the dinosaurs, so when I got the inspiration to make something dinosaur related I made this painting so I could destroy something as scary as Nagini with something as cute as this little guy.
