Brief Description: To honor Sirius Black I made my puppy Blackie a pet bed warmer with the constellation of Canis sewn on it.  This should keep him warm, busy, and away from my pillows at least for a while. I used rice for the filling and black felt to create a little dog shape warmer. Now I can toss it in the dryer and heat it up and the warmth last up to 30mins.

Brief Description: I sat long and thought hard about how I could improve the safety of young witches/wizards flying at night. Then it came to me, well more like I saw it on the muggle’s TV. Mushrooms! I wouldn’t dare eat them, but they are the prefect size for a witch/wizard to hang from their brooms. So I began to cast a binding spell upon the mushroom, trapping the moonlight inside of it. To turn it on/off all you have to do is squeeze the mushroom. Safe flying everyone.

Project Name: Beyond Wanderland
My favorite childhood muggle  tale is Alice & Wanderland. I will be creating a costume inspired by one of the characters from the story. I will be designing it from start to finish. It will be sewn by machine because I need it to be done for next month dance. Techniques I will be using are sewing, crochet, knitting loom, and a bit of upcycling.

My Plan:

Starting with tonight I will be working on the sketches and should be done with this part by Thursday.
Then on Friday I will start gathering the needed materials for the costume.
I should be done with collecting supplies by the 2-22-13, because I will be using coupons for some of the supplies and I will need to bike to the city of Long Beach just to get the fabric. 
I will start creating the pattern on the 2-22-13 as well.
Then on Saturday I will start cutting out the pieces of the pattern.
Sunday I will begin my sewing and finish on the 2-28-13.
Now I hope this goes as planned I don’t want to be late for my very important date! 

Brief Description: I made this for the mini art quilt swap. The tree is reverse applique and all the "quilting" is hand sewn. I had a lot of fun making this. The tree was my partner's request, but in tasseomancy, it represents family or roots. A bare tree can represent family conflict. So, you've got strong family roots, but you're conflicted about it?

Project Name: Very GINGER Broccoli
Project Description: After studying long and hard about Kappas I decided that I would rather avoid the little devils than attempt to appease them. (though knowing a very deep bow still seems like a good idea) Since Kappas hate ginger as much as they love cucumbers I decided to make a very large wok-ful of Ginger Broccoli. I added extra ginger to my recipe this time just to be on the safe side. I didn't measure anything but here's all that I included. Minced fresh ginger, minced garlic, sesame oil, rice vinegar, broccoli, hot chili oil, and topped it off with fresh toasted sesame seeds. It was very tasty...

Woke up at 4:00 this morning, and couldn't get back to sleep.  So I curled up in the living room and wove in all the ends of my afghan.  Now my NEWT is officially done!  Sadly, it's raining here, so I couldn't take pictures before work.  Hope to get them posted later tonight.

Here's my other bragging for the day.  My nine year old made this for a kids swap!  Her partner really liked Harry Potter too, so she made her a Snape's potion cabinet.

Holy smokes that cabinet is sa-weeet! (And congrats to our WoW!)

Tons of really great stuff on here this week- am I the only one who thought that some of those colored pencil drawings could be tattoos? I do so love me my snacks!)

I just finished setting up my experiment for the History of Magic class assignment.  One of those frozen water balloon lanterns. You take a balloon, fill it with water and then freeze it.  After it is solid you cut the balloon off and there ya have it- an ice candle holder/lantern.  We'll see if it works.  I added some food coloring so the pics will come out better. (See also: "caught blue handed" as I had a bit of a blow-out at first and look like I tried to crack a dye pack!)

I also have an Alchemy assignment to turn in- just gotta get the pics.

For the kids valenine swap, my daughter recieved that lovely potions cabinet from patty_o_furniture. as her daughters favorite character was herionie, we made a time turner necklace and a satin jewelry pouch. my daughter also decorated a tote bag with quotes, and a spell book. we found harry potter scrapbooking paper at hobby lobby for the cover.

Brief Description:  In honor of Prof. Dumbledore, I created a set of sewing themed valentines for my students.  They will be attached to the bags of goodies I'm making up for them.  Dumbledore always professed that the greatest magic, and the greatest weapon in the world, is love.  So in the spirit of that wonderful thought, after making up the valentines for myself, I created a PDF for all of you, so you can download them and give them out too!  The image below is just a jpg, so don't try saving that image, or they will print too small.  Instead, use the PDF attached at the bottom of this post.
