Challenge: Flourish & Blotts: Wizarding Idioms
House: Gryffindor

I'm going for a Qubecer's expression: "It's just ButterBeer"
From "It's just small beer", meaning it's an easy task to accomplish Smiley

Okay so I thought I posted this but obviously not.
I haven't finished Snape up because I have lost my black thread. **facepalm** My mom doesn't have any either so I'm out of luck until tomorrow.

Challenge: Flourish and Blotts
House: Hufflepuff

My entry for the Flourish and Blotts Wizard Idioms is "A stoppered crystal phial is worth three simmering cauldrons."

This refers to the fact that because so much can go wrong during the brewing process, you simply can't count on having a potion in hand until it's fully brewed and safely in the bottle.  (Ah, many are the witch and wizard who have laboured for hours over a steaming cauldron, finally perfecting a Drowsiness Draught or Pepperup Potion, only to trip and kick the cauldron over, or splash out most of the contents while trying to pour it into phials!)

The saying is attributed to Herbert Gadswollocks (ca. 1563), a gifted but notoriously clumsy wizard, originator of the phrase "better late than splinched", and inventor of the Self-Righting Cauldron.  It is sometimes mistakenly thought to refer to the Great Crystal Travesty of 1604 (which obviously occurred *after* the saying was already in existence), when a group of drunken Mountain Trolls blundered into the Carpathian Crystalworkkes -- largest maker and supplier of Crystal wizarding supplies in the world -- destroying everything inside, and ultimately causing a fire that burnt the buildings to the ground.  The only surviving wizard from the phial production department was so badly injured that it was months before he could speak well enough to instruct anyone in the special techniques and incantations used in his work, and so it is understandable that people might mistake the meaning of this phrase.  Realistically, however, at the peak of the shortage, and considering that certain touchy potions can only be reliably stored in crystal, a crystal phial would have been worth something more like 5 copper caudrons.

Challenge: Flourish and Blotts
House: Slytherin
Idiom: From the grindstone to Gringotts.

Have you heard about the Weasly family? They finally got their recognition after the second wizarding war, they've all received decorations for extreme bravery and services to the wizarding community and I hear they've been granted a hefty sum of money along with it. They've told me Arthur's been promoted to Muggle Liaison Officer and their youngest son has landed a well paid position as an Auror. The only daughter is the top scorer for the Holyhead Harpies nd she's engaged to Sir Harry Potter. They've really gone from the grindstone to Gringotts, and about time too, don't you think?

The muggle equivalent for this idiom would be "from rags to riches".

Challenge: February Detention
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Celestial Spheres Bracelet

Brief Description: I bought these lovely celestial crystal stars about 6 months ago from Fire Mountain Gems.  I had no idea what I wanted to do with them, but I just couldn't pass them up.  Finally sat down this weekend to turn them into something.  When I dug through my stash to pull them out, I also found some beautiful celestial themed pewter charms that I bought over a year ago.  What could go together better?
