WotW!  So giddy to be chosen!  And CONGRATS fellow WotW Foxy Sam!

@Maman: What cozy looking mittens! (and such an adorable pixiehat)  And your kneazle hat is fab, but your yarn is wondrous!

@AugustBell: YAY Crochet and Love the Lovey!

@noodle-bug: clever use of socks...I'm going to have to make me a bedwarmer or two...and love the thought of making them scented.  And adore the cowl and absolutely LOVE the pics Grin  Way to conquer the purl stitch!

@Supermutts: Way to go!!!  I didn't even notice the oops until you pointed it out.  Your SIL is very lucky!

@jennie: Wondrous Work!  Your skills in Charms astounds and delights everytime!  And I adore the choice of colors and your ability to choose amongst so many fabulous color combos.  I was, as always, more than happy to help. Grin  Plus, you've inspired me to cast my own homespun spell. Cool

OWL Subject & Option: Potions, Option 1: Show off your ability to work with many ingredients by showcasing at least 3 different colors/pattern/textures.
House: ROAR Gryffindor
Project Name: Perfect Potion Ghan
Brief Description: Deputy Headmistress' recent NEWT proposal has me inspired to invent and brew the perfect color changing potion (Note to self: Think of clever name for your new potion).  I shall steal borrow jennie's ghan when done and steep it in this new potion.  I hope to achieve a control over the color choices with my potion so I propose the new color scheme will be....

...yes, yes, lagoon is still there (I adore it so), BUT I will transform the grape to lagoon so see, a color change Cool

Since my powers of potion brewing is faster than jennie's exhaustive and exhausting history studies, I believe that my ghan will be more fitting as an OWL.

Now, where did I put my XL Collapsible Cauldron?

Challenge: UPDATE TO PREVIOUSLY POSTED GEMINIO PROJECT!
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Mrs. Weasely's Magical Soup Mix
I actually posted this project last semester, as part of the Geminio Challenge, but I neglected to post the recipe.  Since that is one of my biggest pet peeves on Craftster, and since the lovely AugustBell requested the recipe after making a batch that I sent her, here it is!

I have to preface this with a bit of extra information.  My recipe is a variation on a few other soup in a jar mixes (Friendship Soup Mix and Love Soup Mix).  Since I really just read a bunch of different recipes and then made up my own, I renamed it "Lazy Winter Night Soup Mix".  Originally it was twice as big (fit a 1 qt. jar), which was just too much.  My MIL made it while we were visiting, and even with 4 adults, it just made way too much food, and we ate it for 3 nights in a row!

So this year, I made half size batches to fit pint jars.  It originally called for wacky mac pasta, but because the barley, split peas, lentils, and rice cook up so much bigger, the pasta became like a proverbial needle in a haystack.  It ended up looking like you tossed in a bit of leftovers instead of like it was an intentional ingredient.  The other nice thing about it is that you can make it pretty far in advance.  I made my jars in early August, and gave them out in December.

Finally, it calls for a few items you might not find at your grocery store.  I ordered them from a website called MySpiceSage.com.  I can't say enough good things about them.  Everything I've ordered has been of excellent quality, shipping was fast & always free, communication was great.  Prices are totally reasonable, and they nearly always send a free gift.  (Last time we got a free 12oz bottle of Siracha which DH loves.)  Also, if you are unsatisfied with something, they will take it back, no questions asked, for a full refund or replacement, and they'll pay for the return shipping.  And no, I don't work for them.  I'm just an extremely satisfied customer.

Mrs. Weasley's Magical Soup Mix...   or Lazy Winter Night Soup Mix
(This list is in order of how you pour them in the jar.  First item on list ends up on bottom of jar.  If you have one, a canning funnel can be helpful when doing this.  If not, just use a paper cone.)

1/4 cup long grain white rice
1/4 cup dried onion (available at grocery store, but I bought a lot to make other jar/mix recipes)
1/4 cup split green peas
1/4 cup pearl barley (Bob's Red Mill is the best & prettiest)
3 T. parsley
1 tsp. kosher or sea salt
10 grinds of black pepper
1 bay leaf
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 cup red lentils (I got these at the health food store in town. Green work too, but I like red better.)
1/4 cup dried celery
1/4 cup of your choice (I used rice or barley again, but you can use carrot, veggie mix, bell pepper or yellow split peas too.)
1 bullion cube of your choice (beef is traditional, but veggie/vegan is great too!)

Attach a label to the jar with the following instructions:

ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS:
1 pound ground beef, turkey, or vegetarian substitute
1 14oz can diced tomatoes, undrained
2 diced carrots
6 cups water

TO PREPARE SOUP: Remove bullion cube from jar.  In a large pot over medium heat, brown meat; drain excess fat. Add diced tomatoes, carrots, water, and soup mix. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover, and simmer for 45-60 minutes, until barley and lentils are tender, adding additional water if necessary.

***Note, if you are making this with a vegetarian meat substitute, you may have to adjust how & when to add the "meat".  Some kinds can break down if cooked too long.

Thanks for the recipe Jennie!
On that note, I've been wanting to update a post I made last semester, and guess now's a good time to!

I made toothpaste http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=413509.msg4921053#msg4921053  that was way too intensely salty.  I ended up forcing myself to use it for about a week and couldn't stand to use it after that.  We'll I finally found all the ingredients for another recipe, a tooth powder instead http://frugallysustainable.com/2012/03/the-benefits-of-brushing-with-tooth-powder-and-a-make-your-own-recipe/ and have been using it.  I like it.  I made it peppermint with essential oils and peppermint leaf.  I still have to really think about using it over the toothpaste tube my DH uses, but it's an acceptable alternative for me.
