Yay for my first badge! I'm planning on an owl, but still can't make up my mind!

Mlissa, Hi! Cheesy Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments, too!

~*NEWT PROPOSAL HEADER*~
NEWT Subject: Study of Ancient Runes
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: The sweater of many cables
Brief Description:
I'm planning on making this:

It's the Vivian sweater by Ysolda Teague. It has many many many different charts with many different stitches and patterns. I've never created a sweater before, nor have I attempted to decipher runes of this complexity before. If I am successful, then I should have a beautiful sweater in the end.

Lets hope that I paid attention to Professor Bathsheda Babbling in my classes and that I have the skill to successfully translate these runes. My hopeful timeline is three months, my more realistic timeline is more like 6. Since the pattern calls for bulky and I decided to use worsted, there is extra calculations involved. Pretty ambitious for my first sweater!

~*NEWT approved*~  PenguinSoup , way to go on proposing your first sweater and the first NEWT!  Your project is most definitely NEWT-worthy and shall test your mastery of Ancient Runes.  I just can't wait to see the finished project!  I am sending you some calming draught for those moments of tangly bits and crazy cables.

I am also sending you one of my CFCs....I think Neville would be perfect....

Best of luck on your NEWT!

~*psst....HPCer...Wis h you had a Neville CFC?  Well, you can grab one WHEN you propose a NEWT.*~

Hmm. I guess it's my turn to propose an OWL. I have a whole list of potential OWL projects, but this one stood out the most, so I'll start with it! Cheesy

OWL Subject & Option:
MUGGLE STUDIES
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Exploring muggle 'zine culture
Brief Description: For this OWL, I am going to craft a peculiar facet of muggle culture - the zine. A zine is a small, independent magazine that is meant to be mass produced and distributed. A modern form of fairytale telling, my zine will focus on inspiring others to take action. Made of paper, and my own personal drawings in pen and ink, I will create a fun and entertaining guide to activism, according to a blog post series I plan on doing, titled the "Simple Superhero".

For this project, I plan on having the book planned and rough-drafted by next week. The drawings should be completed and inked in by the end of the next, and the book should be complete, with photocopies ready to be mailed (as well as the book itself digitized, so all of you can read it) at the end of the third week.

~*OWL approved*~  Melissaurus, I adore your take on the Muggle Studies OWL; your description is fabulous!  I cannot wait to see your final product!  I'm sending you a special bottle of Developing Solution. (I brewed this batch myself.  Normally used to make photographs move, I tweaked it to work on drawings.  Of course to muggle eyes they shall remain motionless....poor muggles.)  Best of Luck! Grin

Challenge: Geminio
Class: Herbology
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Mr. and Mini foxes
Brief Description:
I tried out the Geminio spell but something went terrible wrong! My second fox came out so much smaller! It is a duplicate since it's the exact same pattern, just a different weight of yarn.

The mini fox is going to be a gift for my sister for Christmas. It will protect her from the cold winter winds. While it's not much use against mandrakes, it sure is cute!!
Project Picture:

The pattern is Mr. Fox stole my heart by Stephanie Dosen or Tiny Owl Knits. The bigger fox is out of bulky, and the smaller is out of fingering weight.

@pinkleo, thank you for the calming draught. I may need to come back for more during my N.E.W.T. since my proficiency isn't in potions. And the Neville CFC is amazing!

Ultra psyched for this semester!! Looks like it is off to a great start already!

And YAY for Slug Club!!

I've posted a new Announcement on the Gryffindor Bulletin Board! Go check it out!

I'm starting this semester by completing my detention from last semester!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: December Detention in the Dungeons
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Bottle Opener Pouches
Project Page Link (if available): N/A
Brief Description: (how it fits the requirements, pattern/techniques/recipe used, any fun tips, etc.)

My husband's new hobby is blacksmithing and he made these bottle openers from railroad spikes as Christmas gifts for friends and family. My contribution was to sew up some handy holder pouches. Here's a pic of the first 5, we've got 10 total!

Project Picture:

I'm going to have to think a bit about my NEWT proposal...
