Quidditch Try-outs:

When Malfoy joined the team as a seeker, he equipped the entire team with luxury brooms. Illspoken people claim he bought his place on the team, but we Slytherins know better: Malfoy tried out like all others, and proved to be of sufficient skill to join the team. Invested in our succes, he used the connections he had to increase the team's potential and get a sponsorship for the material available.

Show that you are personally invested in this team and are willing to go the extra mile. Replace something that has been worn down with something new, or craft something that would boost performance.

Just to throw some ideas out there:
- Pants are fraying at the hem and there's not enough length to fix it up? To the sewing machine and stitch up a new favorite pair.
- Potholders have some myserious stains that won't wash out anymore and are decidedly grungy? Time to bust out that crochet hook / quilting stock / ... to replace them with some sparkly new ones.
- Create a chore/rewards chart for the kids.
- Create a wraparound pincushion for your sewing machine so you don't waste time searching for your pincushion and always have it handy to put your pins back in place.
- ...

Hufflepuff Quidditch Tryouts

Patty_O has kindly offered me the job of Hufflepuff Quidditch Captain. Please join the team if you're so inclined! It's a little-known fact that Professor Sprout is a great tactician (and she always treats us to butterbeer after practice).

Hufflepuff Quidditch Challenge: Our house is known for fair play. Create an item that represents good sportsmanship - a thank-you card for your child's coach, encouragement for your favorite athlete, or anything else that brings out the best in the world of sports, magical or Muggle. Join the Order
Challenge: The Horcrux Hunt

The Order is looking for new members to thwart dark wizards and witches.  To see if you have what it takes, the Order has devised a challenge called the Horcrux Hunt.  This challenge will test all your crafty magical skills.  Your job is to find and destroy each horcrux.  You will have many semesters to complete this challenge, but you can destroy each horcrux only once.  You may conquer the horcruxes in any order.  This challenge earns 15 House Points per horcrux, but it CANNOT be combined with any classes or challenges.  Make sure your destruction of a horcrux is clear; if it is not immediately evident, then make sure to use your explanation to make it crystal clear.  Once you have collected all the horcruxes, you will permitted to join the Order.  Good Luck Hunters!

Tom Riddle’s Diary: The first horcrux, created after Tom Riddle murdered his fellow student Moaning Myrtle using the Basilisk. It was destroyed by Harry with a basilisk fang.  To find and destroy, create something that represents or is inspired by a diary, a basilisk, or Moaning Myrtle.

Marvolo Gaunt’s Ring: The ring was handed down to Marvolo Gaunt from Cadmus Peverell.  It was gold with a black stone, later discovered to be the Resurrection Stone.  The ring was destroyed by Dumbledore with Godric Gryffindor's Sword and later hidden in a Golden Snitch for Harry to discover.  To find and destroy, create something that represents or is inspired by a ring, Dumbledore, or a snitch.

Salazar Slytherin's Locket: Owned by Salazar Slytherin and an heirloom of his family. Tom Riddle turned the locket into a horcrux and hid it in a seaside cave. It was taken from the cave, however, by a defected Death Eater named Regulus Black.  Ron first had to face his own fears before destroying Slytherin’s Locket with Gryffindor’s Sword.  To find and destroy, create something that represents or is inspired by a locket, Ron Weasley, or Slytherin.

Helga Hufflepuff’s Cup: The cup, which belonged originally to Helga Hufflepuff, was hidden in the Lestrange family vault at Gringott’s Bank. It was protected there by a Geminio curse.  It was destroyed by Hermione Granger with a basilisk fang.  To find and destroy, create something that represents or is inspired by a cup, Hermione Granger, or Hufflepuff.

Rowena Ravenclaw's Diadem: The diadem originally belonged to Rowena Ravenclaw. It was hidden in the Room of Requirement and was destroyed by Fiendfyre created by Vincent Crabbe. To find and destroy, create something that represents or is inspired by a diadem, Ravenclaw, or Fiendfyre.

Harry Potter: Harry’s scar was an unintentional horcrux created when Voldemort originally used the killing curse on Harry. Harry would have died at that original meeting had it not been for his mother’s sacrifice. The horcrux within Harry was destroyed by Voldemort himself when he used the Elder Wand to cast Avada Kedavra on Harry for a second time.   To find and destroy, create something that represents or is inspired by Harry Potter, Lily Potter, or Voldemort.

Nagini: Nagini was the last of the horcruxes.  This last horcrux was destroyed when Neville Longbottom killed Nagini using the Sword of Gryffindor.  Her death led to Voldemort's final defeat.  To find and destroy, create something that represents or is inspired by Nagini, Neville Longbottom, or Gryffindor.

~*Welcome students new and old to Hogwarts' Winter Semester*~ 

A certain excitement fills the air at the beginning of a new semester.  Along with our new class assignments, we already have one challenge up; check out the Geminio Challenge posted in the Deputy Headmistress' Office.  Further, you may begin to serve your Detention in the Dungeons.   Also, make sure to check out our Advanced Studies Exam Room; we are here to encourage you while you tackle the larger projects of OWLs and NEWTs.  Quidditch will be taking a break for the winter, but I hear that one should keep an eye on Headquarters for possible missions.  And look for an owl concerning House Points which should be arriving soon.  For those who want to be in uniform, House Robes (aka avatars) are available at the Robe Shops.  Contact me if you wish to open your own shop; new robe designers and badge creators are always welcome.

There is a lot that goes on here at Hogwarts, but remember that you do not have to take on all the classes and challenges. It is craftsmanship that shows who we truly are, far more than how many projects we turn in.  To ease your way around the castle, you can find portkeys in the first post, first page.  If you have any questions, do not hesitate in sending an owl (either through a PM aka Personal Message to me or posting in this thread, our students are very helpful).  I can't wait to see your skills in crafty magic.  Have fun!

Oh, I am so excited! Hooray Winter semester!

Now that things are a little bit less busy in my life, I think I am definitely going to tackle an OWL this semester!! Challenge accepted, headmistress. I would send my owl, but she's sleeping at the moment. Sigh. Winter isn't her best season.
