Holiday Recipe Challenge: Grandma's Gingerbread Cookies
House:  Slytherin
Brief Description: I remember making gingerbread cookies with my grandma as a kid. She would make fudge and watch me cut out the cookies because I always wanted to help with the fudge but I was too little.

RECIPE:

6 c. all purpose flour
1 tbsp ground ginger
1tbsp ground cinnamon
1 tbsp baking powder
1 c. shortening
1 c. molasses
1 c. tightly packed brown sugar
1/2 c. water
1 egg

Sit together cinnamon, baking powder, ginger, and flour in a large mixing bowl. In another large bowl mix together shortening, molasses, water, egg, and brown sugar until smooth. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  Roll out the dough (on wax paper or clean countertop). Cut out shapes using your favorite cookie cutters. Place cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes. When cool the cookies can be frosted with a favorite icing. Add sprinkles if you like.

Class/Challenge/House Pride:Dec. Detention
House:Slytherin
Project Name: Pink, blue, and black granny square scarf
Brief Description: I have had this stack of granny squares sitting around forever! It's about time I did my time in detention and finished this project. To finish the project I had to join all the squares and crochet a border around the whole thing, AND weave in so many ends!

I like Kit-Kat, unless I'm with 4 or more people.

TechnicolourAquahearts - Lovely scarf! It makes me really want to learn how to crochet more than chain stitches...  Tongue

Kit the Brave - I got Charmed Knits for Christmas last year, and the first thing I made from it was one of those tiny Weasley jumpers. Yours looks better than mine, heh! (It's such a great book, isn't it? I've just finished the back of my first full-size and rather stripey Weasley jumper, now.)

I got 99 problems and they're all unfinished projects.

December Detention
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Felt slippers
Brief Description: My mother in law is under going chemo treatments, and her feet often hurt, and are cold. We tried buying her socks, but the rubber grips hurt her feet. I know I can't make socks, but I tried my hand at felting to make her a nice soft pair of slippers. I felted them last night, and they should be dry by Christmas morning.

Before felting

I don't have pictures of this batch, but I do have these pictures from previous batch

2 pkgs. (1/2 oz. total) rapid-rise yeast
3 eggs
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. sugar
1 stick (4 oz.) butter
7 cups bread flour
1 cup Milk
EGG WASH:
1 egg
1 tsp. water

Place Bowl inside sink
Sift Bread Flour into bowl
Microwave Milk add butter. Add Sugar and Salt. Add Yeast
Make well in flour. Add Eggs Mix
Add liquid gradually and mix together.

When dough starts to form into a ball transfer to a an oiled bowl.
Knead in bowl inside sink.
Cover bowl and move to warm place (like top of fridge or ontop of warm oven)
Let rise for 1 hour

Grease 1 Jelly Roll Pan
Pinch dough and form into a bun in your hand.
Place on Cookie sheet in a 4 x 6 grid.
Cover with a towel and let rise one hour in a slightly warm draft free area.

Make an egg wash by beating egg and water together.
Brush the loaves gently with the egg wash (you will not use it all).
Bake at 325 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until bread looks done.
