Im in the formative stages of setting up a workers cooperative/monthly gallery for crafters in my local area. I have a venue I want to use for a monthly market and a plan to have people signing up, dropping their stuff off and someone else doing the selling. I'm putting out feelers to see if I have enough able bodies to run as a coop or busy crafters who want a gallery style service but without gallery level commission or who are starting out and not yet ready for a gallery.

This has come from running a yearly market and people not being available on the day but wanting a stall, people enjoying the crafting but not the admin or the marketing and mostly from people not enjoying being on the sales frontline.

I'd be really interested to hear people views on what would work for them, what has and hasn't worked for them and some feelings about commission based sales

Looking forward to hearing from you
Kole

35-40% is standard for consignment. Feelings? The crafters should feel grateful they don't have to sit around all day and try to act like salespeople. That's as far as feelings about commissions should go. They pay, you work!

My main concerns would be who would be responsible for damage/loss and the amount of leeway to pick up the unsolds post-market.
