I brought dessert to a Memorial Day cookout and took my inspiration from the book "What's New Cupcake?"

The coals are red velvet cupcakes with vanilla icing topped with marshmallows (two each - one cut in half, one cut at the 1/3 point), crushed chocolate wafer cookies (I used Oreos and just ate the creamy side  Grin), and red sugar. I put them all into cake tins to simulate the grill base. I topped the cake pans with small cooling racks. The hamburgers are cocoa crispy treats pressed flat and cut with a round cookie cutter. I sprayed the crispy treats with red food coloring to complete the look.

The book decorates the tops of the cupcakes slightly differently and uses rice cakes instead of crispy treats. Mine were incredibly sweet - perhaps too sweet - but I got lots of complements.
