Meet Finickus, a strange, curious little elf!
Straight from Christmas Town, he is here to reside on my shelf.
Finickus is a little different as you can probably see,
His idea of Christmas is skewed to a certain degree.
Let me explain his strange and peculiar attire;
It all started when he saw that elves were for hire.
His first day on the job, Fin arrived early to Santas workshop.
Eager to meet the man himself, he ran then came to a jarring stop.
Expecting to see a jolly, round man with a beard on his chin,
He instead came face to face with a tall thin frame with a skeleton grin!
You see, one fateful fall night, changes began taking place all around,
A tall, thin skeleton man was dazzled by something he had found.
Bored of Halloween Town and his reign as the Pumpkin King,
This skeleton known as Jack found Christmas Town and loved every single thing.
Excited and mystified, Jack knew just what he wanted to do,
He returned to his home with plans of something completely new.
Jack saw no reason that he could not take over Santas job for that year,
And with that he put his friends to work, spreading Christmas cheer.
It was the same fateful day that Jack arrived to take Santas place,
That Finickus also arrived and saw this new face.
Though surprised and caught off guard by this skeleton Santa fraud,
Finickus immediately loved him and saw nothing odd.
Well, long story short, Jacks days as Kris Kringle were short-lived,
And after that, Fin, sadly, just didnt fit in.
He loved bats and pumpkins and ghostly delights!
And spooky music that gives most beings a fright!
Its not that he doesnt like Christmas or warm fuzzy feelings,
He just has a different view of what is appealing.
But finally this year Santa thought of something great!
Elves were not only needed for making toys 365 days straight.
A new job-calling had arisen for elves,
An endeavor of watching over humans while hiding on shelves.
Santa knew he needed to send Finickus to Pooky,
A gal just as odd and fond of Jack and all things spooky.
Upon his arrival Finickus squeed at all the Halloween-Christmas decor,
And now they both never worry about not fitting in anymore.

I named him Finuckus because he was rather finicky in the process of being made! Normally dolls take me no time at all, but he took forever!
He is wearing Harem pants with Halloween patches and even has a hidden Mickey which is quite relevant to me if you know any of my back story. Smiley

His shoes are my favorite!

Thanks for checking out my little elf! I am so glad FoxyBlue hosted a Shelf Elf contest on her facebook because she gave me quite a challenge! Smiley

Oh!  I clicked the small picture thinking it was a christmas elf and was a little spooked by the skull behind him.  Eeep!  You did a good job on the little elf though-lots of detail.  I love his happy little expression.  Did you use any special pens/paints to do the face-the face is so detailed I imagine it was difficult to do.

Thanks, missmoppet! And yeah, sorry, I have a strange take on Christmas with my skull ornaments. lol

No, just acrylics and brushes. The face took the shortest amount of time actually...just a few minutes. It was the only thing I had a vision of in my head. It was his clothing that just wasn't coming together. He went through a lot of outfit changes. lol

He is so cute!! I love his poem too. His face is so adorable. I can't believe it's paint, it looks like a professional printed fabric. My favorite part is his shirt with suspenders and bow tie! Soo adorable. Oh my and those little shoes with the bells are to die for. He's wonderful!

Cute cute CUTE! I love his face and the fact that you tied him in with Nightmare Before Christmas but didn't make him creepy. He's really well made.

I said it before, but I LOVE him!
He came out so perfectly spookypookyish (yes, that's a word.)
I didn't notice the hidden Mickey before! Love that idea.
(My husband and I love looking for those. Hmm, now I think when we get our next house, we need to add some in to our decorating.)

Whenever I see one of your dolls, I think they're cute and well made, but what I really enjoy, is that every one has a story that you tell in a clever poem. Then they come to life. You're quite the story teller, Pooky.

I am so glad I'm not the only one who thought of making a Christmas elf who looks like he belongs in Halloweentown instead :3
I also have an odd Christmas style: we're having gingerbread bat cookies instead of gingerbread men. We may also have skull & crossbone shaped cookies to go with them.

He's AMAZING!  I'm inspired.  Do you mind sharing what kind of fabric you used for his head/face?  I want to make dolls for my two daughters for Christmas.  I've made a few dolls, but I've never been totally happy with the fabric for the... errr... flesh... I guess is the word.

I want to make some more elves but we'll see if I have time! I found some gingerbread cookie cutter and stampers at target that leave skeleton prints on the cookies. Smiley

I have so many things I'm trying to do that I don't know that I'll get one made! I have to make the five year old a flannel Spiderman hat, I'm trying to make a plushie of the little purple fuzzy critter on my avie, I'm going through my stash, searching for fabrics for an outfit I want to try to have sewn by Xmas to wear for our family's get-together...*dizzy*
Ah, the holidays! Every crafter's nightmare and dream come true all rolled into one!
Ooh! Those stamps sound awesome! Cheesy I wish there was a Target near where I live. Nearest one is about sixty miles or so away as I live in the middle of nowhere.
I think I'm going to even go so far as to use yellow frosting with a touch of black for the cookies (black frosting tastes funky) to make them more Batman themed.

Oh my gosh this little guy is ADORABLE. So many amazing details - the mix of Christmas and Halloween goes so well, who would've thought? Well, you obviously! Cheesy
I've been admiring your work for a long time (er, stealthily -or lurking as they say Wink) and the way you do faces, especially, amazes me. Your style is remarkable and instantly recognizable, it's very Burtonesque to me, sort of dark yet beautiful if you know what I mean. I think it strikes me so much because it's the thing I have the most trouble with and you have such an amazing touch; I'm not sure how you manage to put so much personality and expression into them but they are perfect every single time.

Can't wait to see what you dream up next.

Aw, thank you so much! This just made my night! Tim Burton is the very man who has inspired me to do all this along with Walt Disney, so I am glad that shines through.
