I am not one of these fancy people with Kichenaid mixers but still want to make macaroni at home.  Does anyone know if its possible to convert a cookie press to a macaroni press?

Not sure about the cookie press thing. I think pasta dough might be too firm. Just wanted to say that I have heard from people with the pasta extruding atatchment for the kitchen aid, that it is not all that it is cracked up to be.
Do you have your heart set on macaroni? cuz linguine would be way easier without any speceal equipment.

I'm trying to picture this with my 1960s Mirro cookie press.  Possibly doable.
your pattern plate would have to be a circle with the center still attached by a couple of supports.  Mine doesn't have that, you could maybe have one made by a metalworker.  Or, maybe make one from ceramic--glaze it for cleanup.

I have a pasta machine that makes several shapes including macaroni.  I have never used it in the two years since I got it, so I promised it to a friend yesterday (he's selling pasta at a farmer's market for $12 a pound!).

I hope you've been working out, because pasta dough is a lot stiffer than cookie dough. I don't see it happening. Manually, you will kill yourself trying to squeeze the stuff out. Ouch.
