Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.

I'm fairly certain this is knit, although the finishing at the bottom of the cardigan is crochet. It's a mass-produced sweater from JJill. Would love it if someone could identify the stitch this is. Here's a close up photo of what the front looks like (I've stretched it out a little bit so you can see the details):

Here's a close up of the back of the fabric:

Thanks for the help!

The back looks like brioche or fisherman's rib, so I'm guessing it's reverse stockinette st brioche. Have a look at all the variations at www.briochestitch.com

I just learned the brioche stitch...it looks like a variation...but with store bought goods, it is hard to tell because a lot of yarn goods are made by machine...I love the texture!

Almost anytime someone asks 'what's this stitch?' and it's a store bought machine made pattern, the answer is usually that it's a variation of brioche stitch. Even though you may not be able to perfectly replicate it, it's usually close enough.

I'd never heard of that stitch before, it looks interesting.

Yes it is, makes a cushy thick fabric too, and can be reversible for scarves. I prefer doing it like fisherman's rib, which is done by k1below instead of the sl/yo and ktog. Tutorial here - http://www.thedietdiary.com/blog/lucia/291

Yeah, she's got a lot of calculators too, like for increasing and decreasing, making sweaters or shawls and lots of other stuff.
