Topsy Turvy Terracotta

I wanted to do a smaller scale.  These are terracotta pots ranging from 1" to 5" in diameter.  I painted them with patio paint.  The paint also seals the pots, so no need for a separate coat of sealer.  Using a hack saw, I cut to size a 1/4" all-thread rod.  At the base of each pot is a bolt and washer.  The mushroom is a wooden drawer knob I painted to look like a mushroom.  The succulent plants are all from my garden.  All-in-all this project cost me less than $6 to make.

This is awesome!  Did you have difficulty balancing the whole thing so it wouldn't tip over once it was all loaded down with plants and soil?

Thanks!  No, it's pretty stable.  The bottom pot is up-side down, so I could conceal a bunch of bolts to weigh it down.  The soil mix I use is also pretty light because it's got 50% perlite.

Oh, I didn't notice the upside down pot the first time I saw the photos.  Great trick to hide your bolts.

I love this! Do you think kids (5-8 yr old) could do this with help? What about using plastic pot? Would they work?
